Cans are made of various metals. They can be melted down and reused.
It takes much less energy to recycle cans than to make new cans.
Old jars and bottles can be reused for other purposes. They can also be
sent to a glass factory where they can be melted down to make new items.
Many old cars are sent to scrap yards. Useful parts can be sold to
second-hand dealers. The parts which cannot be used are crushed and
shredded into tiny bits of steel. These steel bits are melted down at steel
factories.
Old batteries have harmful chemicals which can leak and seep into the
ground. They should not be thrown away with other rubbish.
