Topic: Solar system

Lesson objectives:

1. Name the different planets in the solar system.


2. Name the largest planet in diameter.
3. Name the order of planets from the sun.

Equipment: Whiteboard markers, solar system info sheet.

Introduction:
Name and introduction to students
- whats your favourite animal.
Our solar system contains many planets. Q. Does any
one know how many?
Q. Can anyone name any of the planets?
List what students say.

Main:

Make a list in order of the solar systems on the


whiteboard, starting from the closest to the sun.
Q. ask if any of the students know which planet is the
biggest.
Explain the largest (in diameter) to the smallest planets.
Did You Know? Three of the planets in the solar system
are currently visible in the night sky in June 2017. They
are: Venus, Jupiter and Saturn.
Conclusion:
rub the planets off the board and see if students can
list them.
It is important that we know our neighbour planets
and remember we are living on one! called Earth!
Q. How far (in planets) are we away from the sun?
Take home task: research which planet has the most
moons.
