2. Express the function f (z) = x2 y 2 2x + i(2y 2xy) in terms of z

3. f (x + iy) = u + iv is an analytic function with u = 2xy + y/(x2 + y 2 )
and v = x2 y 2 + x/(x2 + y 2 ). Express f in terms of z.

analytic in D; (c) |f (z)| is constant in D.

13. If f (z) = u(x, y) + iv(x, y) as well as g(z) = v(x, y) + iu(x, y) are


analytic in common domain D then show that u(x, y) and v(x, y) must
be constant throughout D.

14. If f (z) = u(x, y) + iv(x, y) is analytic in a domain D then show


that, in that domain, (i) f (z) is independent of z , (ii) 2 u/z z =
2 v/z z = 0, (iii) u, v can be expressed as u = (f (z) + f (z))/2,

and f (1 + i) = 0.
