General Overview: The AP Spanish language class is a rigorous class taught in Spanish. The workload is
equivalent to a third year college course. Students will be required to prepare essays and classroom
presentations. Students should be able to do the following:

1. Understand written sources in Spanish, including literary readings as well as authentic modern works
(newspapers, magazines, articles).
2. Use correct grammar, syntax, and vocabulary to express themselves fluently in writing (summarizing, writing
essays and letters, writing journal entries).
3. Understand spoken Spanish in both formal and informal settings, including news broadcasts, lectures,
television programs, and conversations by native speakers of various Spanish-speaking countries.
4. Use correct grammar, pronunciation, syntax, and vocabulary to express themselves orally in Spanish both in
informal settings in the classroom and in prepared presentations.
5. Integrate the four language skills through various activities listed later.
6. Understand the cultures of the Spanish-speaking world and make connections to their own culture.

Grading: All assignments will have an assigned point value. Grading will be based on tests, quizzes, in class
assignments, homework, projects, and class participation. The following grading scale will be used:

A 100 93% B+ 88.9 87 C+ 78.9 77 D+ 68.9 67 I / F 57.9 and below

A- 92.9 89% B 86.9 83 C 76.9 73 D 66.9 63
B- 82.9 79 C- 72.9 69 D- 62.9 58

Any student that ends the term with a grade less than a C- will be removed from the class.

Quizzes / Tests: Every class will start with a quiz. The quiz will start when the tardy bell sounds. If a student
enters the class after the quiz starts, they will not have the opportunity to revisit missed questions. Retakes of
these quizzes will not be offered.

Late Work: Any work that is submitted 1 class period past the due date will have a value of 50%. Any late
assignment turned in over 2 class periods passed the due date will not be accepted for credit.
Every assignment and their due date will be posted on Skyward.

Make-up Work: Students who are absent should obtain the missed work to be made up. It is the students
responsibility, when they return from an absence, to obtain work missed. Each student will be required to
obtain missed work the day they return from an absence. The student will then have the same amount of time to
complete the assignment as was originally assigned for the rest of the class.

Extra Credit: No extra credit will be given unless ALL homework, projects, in class assignments, and tests
have been completed and turned in.

Class Web Site: http://adkinsonespanol.weebly.com The purpose of the class web site is that the student can
access class material from anywhere in the world (expect on campus on the Guest network). Also the site
allows for parents and guardians to know what is going on, and know where their student can get the
assignment if it is lost or is unattainable from the teacher. Everything the student learns and/or is assigned
will be on the class web site.
Cell Phones: Cell Phones are not for personal use in class. There will be situations in which cell phones will
be used in class, but only under the supervision of the instructor.
