Week - 2 Tutorial

This document provides 6 problems involving calculating the resultant of two forces acting at a point using the parallelogram law of forces. Problem 1 asks to find the resultant and direction of two forces acting away from a particle. Problem 2 asks to find the magnitude of each force if the resultant and one angle are given. Problem 3 asks to find the value of one force if doubling the other force and increasing the second force does not change the resultant direction.

Problems on Resultant of Two forces acting at a point

(Parallelogram Law of forces)

Sub: Engineering Mechanics Tutorial Problems

(1) Two forces of magnitude 20 N and 40 N are acting on a particle such that
the angle between the two is 135. If both these forces are acting away from the
particle, calculate their resultant and find its direction.
(JNTUH MAY-2016)
[2M]
(R = 29.47 N, = 28.6 )

(2) The resultant of two concurrent forces is 1500 N and the angle between the
forces is 90. The resultant makes an angle of 36 with one of the force. Find
the magnitude of each force.
(JNTUH,August/September-2016) [3M]
(P = 1213.86 N , Q = 881.26 N)

(3) Two forces equal to 2F and F act on a particle. If the first be doubled and
the second increased by 15 N, the direction of the resultant remains unaltered.
Find the value of F.
(JNTUH, Dec-14/Jan-2015) [5M]
(F = 15 N)

(4) Two forces 15N and 12N are acting at a point. The angle between the forces
is 60. Find the magnitude and direction of the resultant.
(JNTUH JUNE-2015)
[2M]

(5) Two forces are acting at a point O as shown in fig. determine the
magnitude and direction of the resultant. (JNTUH, JUNE - 2010) [5M]

(R = 145.46 N, = 35.1)

(6) The resultant of two forces, one of which is double the other is 260 N. If the
direction of the larger force is reversed and the other remains unaltered, the
resultant reduces to 180N. Determine the magnitude of the forces and the
angle between the forces. (JNTUH) (P = 100 N , Q = 200 N and = 63.89)
