Para. 11.2
welding into a string.

Pipe joints are welded to form strings of 900 to 1200 m. Pipe strings or
SAES-L-450,
A6 portions thereof shall not be moved until all joints have been fully welded
Para. 11.3
and inspected.

Externally coated pipe strung along the right-of-way is supported on rock SAES-H-200,
A7 free sand, sand bags, rubber tires, or similar compressible material to
prevent damage. Para. 5.3

Pipe strings or portions thereof shall not be moved until all joints have SAES-L-450,
A8
been fully welded and inspected. Para. 11.3
Open ends of pipeline strings shall be capped to prevent entry of debris SAES-L-450,
A9
or animals and birds. Para. 11.4
SAES-L-450,
A10 Each string of the pipeline shall be cleaned to remove all debris.
Para. 11.5

Except for internally coated pipe, each string shall be gauged by passing
an internal gauging plate with a diameter not less than the the following
dimensions:
a. 90% of the inside diameter for pipesizes smaller than 20-inch, SAES-L-450,
A11
b. 93% of pipe internal diameter for pipe sizes 20-inch and larger. Para. 11.7
*NOTE: Identify and Record each string that was internal gauged and
the results or findings. Record may be done in the Remarks section or
on a separate Report Form when available.

A valve site to valve site cleaning shall be performed before installing the
SAES-L-450,
A12 valves into the pipeline.
Para. 11.5
*NOTE: Identify pipe section cleaned: _______________________

SAES-L-450,
A string shall always be connected to each side of the anchor stub when
A13
the work is stopped at the end of the day.
Para. 15.8

When a sufficient number of strings have been completed, the starting SAES-L-450,
A14 end of the pipeline is tied-in to a full thrust anchor, or to
600 M minimum of buried pipeline, using a temperature tie-in weld. Para. 15.6.1

length of pipe.

Slings for lifting pipe shall be nylon or similar material to prevent damage SAES-L-450,

to the pipe surface. Wire rope slings shall not be used. Para. 8.5

Internally coated pipe shall be handled from the outside diameter (O.D.) SAES-L-450,
A17
only. Para. 8.7

SAES-L-450,
A18 Pipe support elevations shall be maintained within 6 mm.
Para. 13.2

If support elevations are established during construction, the slope shall

be calculated from the actual support elevations and distances, and shall
comply with the limitations set forth in Table 2.

180 to 275 4 0.0698

The pipe supports shall be installed on a stable base material to at least SAES-L-450,
A20
1.8 m in diameter and shall comply with SAES-Q-005. Para. 13.6

When a sufficient number of strings have been completed, the starting

end of the pipeline shall be tied in to a full thrust anchor or to a minimum SAES-L-450,
A21
of 600 meters of buried pipeline using a temperature tie-in weld. Para. 15.6.1
*NOTE: Temperature Tie-In Weld Inspection is per SAIC-L-2115.

Preformed cold field and/or shop bending of line pipe shall follow the
SAES-L-450,
A22 requirements of SAES-L-450, Appendix B verified through Checklist
Para. 10.7.1
SAIC-L-2114.

Vents and drains shall not be installed unless included in the approved SAES-L-450,

design drawings. Para. 9.1

Installation of temporary vents and drains is not permitted without prior SAES-L-450,
A24
approval per section 6. Para. 9.2

B. Non-restrained pipelines:

Ring girders shall be installed within 6 mm horizontal and vertical SAES-L-450,

B1
tolerances. Para. 13.3

A string shall always be connected to each side of the anchor stub when SAES-L-450,
B2
the work is stopped at the end of the day. Para. 15.8

The bend radius shall be 5-D type if the pipeline is required to allow
SAES-L-450,
B3 passage of instrument scrapers. NOTE: Long radius elbows are the
Para. 10.2.1
standard methods for achieving horizontal bends.

For above ground pipelines at road crossings where preformed bends

are required, the bend angle and bite conformed with Attachment 1 SAES-L-450,
B4
(Table 1 - Maximum Localized Bend), of this checklist. Para. 10.8.1
* NOTE: Field bend shall be inspected per SAIC-L-2114.

The bend shall be located so that the peak of the bend is located SAES-L-450,
B5
between two pipe supports and does not reside on pipe supports. Para. 10.8.2

There shall always be at least 900 m to 1200 m of pipe attached to the

C4 Two strings on supports are tied together with a temperature tie-in weld.
Para. 15.6.5

When double string of 1800 m to 2400 m is tied in to the pipeline at

normal daily temperatures, the pipeline being tied into must have an end SAES-L-450,

temperatures do not exceed the design tie-in temperatures.

All horizontal deflections are made at deflection anchors and consisted

SAES-L-450,
C7 of a series of very large radius field bends held in special supports
Para. 10.9.1
designed for horizontal thrust, as shown on the Project Drawings.

For larger bend angles that are not accounted for on project drawings,
additional support shall be provided symmetrically distributed along the SAES-L-450,
C8
bend curve. The number and location of the supports shall be approved Para. 10.9.2
by the Aramco Representative.
