Peer-to-peer (P2P) networking architectures provide scalable and cost-effective content delivery that is an alternative to expensive centralized systems. The paper proposes improving video streaming over P2P networks using a head-tail streaming methodology. This approach divides video data packets based on format and available bandwidth. Results show the proposed head-tail methodology increases packet delivery ratio compared to an adaptive solution alone.

ABSTRACT

PV (Peer-to-Peer) networking architectures represent scalable and cost-effective features. The

media streaming technology leveraging P2P architecture is expected to be an attractive content
delivery scheme and an alternative for IP multicast or content delivery systems requiring
expensive network infrastructure and a large scale centralized cash storage systems. In this paper,
we address the P2P progressive download which enables Internet video streaming services in the
cost-effective and scalable manner, and to be easy to deploy.

In this Research, we are improving the packet delivery ratio for the Peer to Peer network. We are
using Head-Tail Video Streaming methodology. We divide the data packet based on the video
format and network connectivity based on the bandwidth available, we divide the data in small
datagram using P2P networking architectures which receive a lot of attention nowadays, as they
enable a variety of new applications that can take advantage of the distributed storage and
increased computing resources offered by such networks. In addition, P2P systems represent a
scalable and cost effective alternative to classic media delivery services, which allows for
extended network coverage in the absence of IP multicast or expensive Content Distribution
Networks (CDNs). Their advantage resides in their ability for self-organization, bandwidth
scalability, and network path redundancy, which are all very attractive features for effective
delivery of media streams over networks . Data collected from results session, the comparison
for the Enable Adaptive Solution and Proposed Methodology (Head-Tail Video Streaming)
where result show that Peer to Peer Packet Delivery Ratio is Low for the Enable Adaptive
Solution as compare to Proposed Methodology (Head-Tail Video Streaming).
