Discipline Plan
I want to make sure that your child has the type of educational environment that will maximize his/her learning
potential. In order to provide your child with this opportunity, it is important that a discipline plan is followed at all
times. I have many procedures to help the show run smoothly, but I will ask the students to follow the
R.O.C.K.S.T.A.R. model daily. We will be creating specific rules for our classroom as a group during the first week
of school. All of the choices we make fall under this model.
Be Respectful
Be Organized
Be Cooperative
Be Kind
Be Safe
Be Trustworthy
Be Accountable
Be Responsible
Along with the daily model, I will be using a classroom economy for positive reinforcement of behavior.
Students may earn Rockstar Bucks for desirable behaviors, and will loose Rockstar Bucks/pay fines for
undesirable behaviors. Each Friday students will have the opportunity to cash in their weekly earnings for
prizes or make a deposit in the classroom bank to save for a larger prize the following week. If a student
chooses not to follow the R.O.C.K.S.T.A.R. model, the following consequences will be used:
The hope is that a time to reflect and think about expectations will help continue a positive learning
environment for all. In the event that a child is having a rough day, a student will have no more than 3 time
outs in a day. After this third time the student will remain on orange (clipped down) and it will be
communicated to you through the agenda, email, or a phone call. This way you can have a conversation with
your child at home and we can work together to ensure their best opportunity to learn. Our consistent
communication about your childs behavior will make our year very successful!
EXCEEDING EXPECTATIONS; REWARDS
st
1 exceeding expectations Clip up to Blue (+$2 RB)
*Please note: A child resulting in a green day is positive, and it means that they met the expectations of the
day. Students will receive one rockstar buck per day for remaining on green.
Agendas:
The school has provided each child with an agenda. Each day, your child will have the responsibility of filling
out their homework, the summary of their behavior, reminders, reading log (see Homework), and having you
sign it every night. This will give you a chance to see what homework they have to complete at home, how
they behaved in class, notify you of any upcoming events, and allow you the opportunity to write me notes if
you need to. I will also write notes home to you if there is a need. It is your childs responsibility to show
this Agenda to you everyday and have you sign it. An example of what the Agenda looks like is attached.
Please understand that if your child does NOT make sure to get their agenda signed by a parent, there
will be a consequence:(loss of Rockstar Buck for showing lack of responsibility.)
It is important to remember is that the Agenda is one of our most important tools to communicate
consistently about your childs behavior, reminders, and daily homework.
Homework:
Students will have a silver Homework Folder that goes home every day. The right side will be where students
place homework and any other paperwork that will be required to come back to school. On the left side will be
any form of communication from myself or the school that is important for you to have and keep at home.
Homework will be given on most Monday-Thursdays nights. I will never assign homework for the weekends,
but if a student fails to complete homework assignments during the week, I will ask that he/she complete
them over the weekend.
Each night students may have up to 3 assignments. Your child will write their assignments in the
Agenda so that you are aware of what was assigned. The Reading Log will be considered one of those
assignments and will be filled out in the last box of the Agendas (example attached).
At least three nights a week, I ask that your child read at least 20 minutes to you or individually.
When they are done, they should fill out the book they read, the page number range they read, and
have you sign. This will be checked daily as a homework assignment.
As projects and essays are assigned throughout the year we will adjust/modify the homework as needed.
*Each student is expected to turn in their homework daily. Homework must have a name on it and should not
be done in pen.
Spelling:
Each Monday students will have a spelling pre-test. The test will allow students to be tested on the words for
the week that way they know which words they need to study to prepare for Fridays test. I do not require
spelling homework to be turned in. Your child may choose to study their spelling words in a variety of ways. (a
list of ideas are in their homework folder)
GRADED WORK:
Periodically (usually biweekly) I will send home their Graded work folder. This folder will have all of their
graded work inside along with a log of when it was sent. As this folder comes home, please take out the
graded work and look over/discuss with your child so that you can keep up to date with what is going on in the
classroom and with what areas your child is succeeding or struggling. Once you have taken out the work,
please sign and date the log. Then, return the folder to school with your child.
PEANUT-FREE SCHOOL:
Holloman Elementary is now a peanut free school. We have several students who have life threatening peanut
allergies, so please be mindful when your child brings any food item to school that it cannot contain peanuts.
(We want everyone to stay healthy and safe!)
Specials:
Students will have (Music, PE, and Library weekly as well as Art and Health on a monthly rotation.)
The first month we have Health on Wednesday and Music and PE on Tuesdays and Fridays. (Students will
need to wear sneakers on Tue,Wed, and Fri.)
Absences: Please always contact the front office if your child is going to be absent from school.
Parent Teacher Conferences: We will be having our Fall Parent Teacher Conferences on September 22nd
and 25th (8am-3pm). If you already know a time that would work well for you on one of those two days, please
let me know and I will put you down for that time.
Contact Information:
*Email is the best way to contact me as I always check it at least 2x a day: before and after school.
