Assignment Top Sheet: Student Ref. No Unit Code
Instructions to Student:
Please note: Work presented in an assessment must be the student's own. Plagiarism is where a student copies work from
another source, published or unpublished (including the work of a fellow student) and fails to acknowledge the influence of
another's work or to attribute quotes to the author. Plagiarism is an academic offence.
Work presented in an assessment must be your own. Plagiarism is where a student copies work from another source,
published or unpublished (including the work of another student) and fails to acknowledge the influence of another’s work or
to attribute quotes to the author. Plagiarism is an academic offence and the penalty can be serious. The University’s policies
relating to Plagiarism can be found in the regulations at http://www.luton.ac.uk/livingandstudying/qa/documents. To detect
possible plagiarism we may submit your work to the national plagiarism detection facility. This searches the Internet and an
extensive database of reference material including other students’ work to identify. Once your work has been submitted to
the detection service it will be stored electronically in a database and compared against work submitted from this and other
universities. It will therefore be necessary to take electronic copies of your materials for transmission, storage and
comparison purposes and for the operational back-up process. This material will be stored in this manner indefinitely.
I have read the above information and I confirm that this work is my own and that it may be processed and stored in
the manner described.
Extension deadline
CAAS agrees that the assignment may be submitted ____ days after the deadline and should be marked without penalty.
CAAS confirmation...................................................................................................................
All assignments must be electronically submitted using Turnitin (via BREO) by 6 pm on the due date.
Please leave sufficient time to meet this deadline and do not leave the handing-in of assignments to the last minute. You
need to allow time for any system problems or other issues.

Hand-in Date: See the CIS Referrals BREO site for submission deadline
Aim
You are required to investigate in depth, a technical area related to networking and analyse its main
functions. The topic of your research will be assigned to you by the unit leader and will be shown on
BREO under the Assignments section.
You will need to briefly state the context in which the technology exits and its use including the current
state of its development. You should then evaluate it in terms of its strengths and weaknesses. You
should continue to consider the future of the technology under review. Assume that your audience is
the rest of the MSc Network Systems group.
For the referral work, you are required to repair the assignment you submitted to a pass grade
taking into account the comments made by the staff on your submitted assignment.
Task
Produce a PowerPoint presentation, lasting 20 minutes plus or minus 10%. Additional notes,
comments and references must be entered into the Notes pages of the presentation (see diagram
below). No report format will be accepted as a deliverable.
References’ slide(s) should also be added but they will not count towards the number of the content
slides.
1. A PowerPoint presentation file must be submitted in unpackaged format on floppy disk or CD-
ROM
2. A PDF version of the file with Notes area included submitted to Turnitin. Word or PowerPoint
files must not be submitted to Turnitin.
3. A printed and properly bound version in Notes Pages format to the Assignments Office by the
above deadline.
Marks will be deducted if the submitted PowerPoint file is saved as Packaged PPS file.
x DO NOT TAPE your CDROM to the printed slides as this will damage the data area. If you do
this, we will not be able to mark your work and your grades will get delayed.
Marking Scheme
Please note that this assignment must be done individually. This is not a group work, so no
collaborative or cooperative work of any kind is allowed. Although working with others is an important
part of computing, for you this particular assignment if your answers (wording) are same (or mostly
same) as someone else’s work then you and all others involved will fail the assignment and all of you
will need to attend a plagiarism hearing.
Marks will be lost for poor presentation and for the use of materials with incorrect or missing
references or late submission.
The following assessment criteria will be used when your work is marked (and thus you should check
each of them carefully before submitting your work):
