INTRODUCTION

On-The-Job Course Description and Scope

The Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering is a five-year degree course designed for students to

help them acquire the basic concepts of civil engineering. This course is made to equip the students the

proper skills and training in preparation to actual practice in the field of construction management, planning

the design, and theoretical aspects of the civil engineering field. This course also offers major specializations

in Transportation Engineering, Structural Engineering, and Construction Engineering and Management.

Civil engineering is the design and construction of public works, such as roads, bridges, dams and

other infrastructure projects. As one of the oldest branches of engineering, it has been shaping the

environment and lifestyle progressively.

Civil Engineering On-The-Job Training comprises of 200 working hours in private or government

companies. This training is a requirement on civil engineering program and is acquired by incoming fifth year

students only. This hands-on training is designed to help students obtain relevant knowledge and skills at

work in the field of civil engineering.

Importance of the Training

This training program is intended for civil engineering students to involve them in a working

environment that is relevant to civil engineering course. It attempts to learn productivity in, knowledge on,

and respect for the workplace. This training program is important because it provides an opportunity for the

students not only to apply the theories and principles learned in academe but also develops the technical

knowledge, skills and attitudes towards work with satisfactory job performance. It also enables students to

broaden their career experiences and advancements in the field of civil engineering for profitable future

employment.
