Attitudestowardsmoney 03
Whether were keenly aware of it or not we all hold typically pretty well-
ingrained attitudes toward money. We may have inherited our attitudes
toward money from our family of origin, or from financial experiences in
previous marriages or relationships, or from our own personal life
experiences. Wherever and however your attitudes toward money were
shaped, they influence your decision-making. The same is true for your
new spouse. And its very possible in fact, likely that you hold
somewhat, if not entirely, different attitudes toward money. Perhaps one of
you is fearful of running out of money while the other is more relaxed.
Maybe one of you is consistent about paying bills on time while the other
doesnt worry about late fees or not paying bills in full. You will also
probably have to deal with some of the emotional fall-out from how your
previous ex-spouses dealt with and made decisions about money.

Friends from our childhood or adolescence are special, no matter how much
time has elapsed between visits. These compelling connections are the result
of shared roots during the formative years. Our childhood friends and
teenage sweethearts experienced with us all the wonderful, horrible, boring,
and embarrassing moments that helped to make us who we are today.
Yet, when children are young, parents may regard these relationships as
insignificant. If the family must move to a new community and the children's
close friends must be left behind, so what? They will make new friends, the
parents assure them. But, is a friend as interchangeable as a new toy for an
old one, or is there more to friendship than that? Why are we so elated to
rediscover long lost friends in our adult years if, as some parents believe, they
were so dispensable to us as children?

textile designers. Because the more
technical term costume is regularly linked
to the term "fashion", the use of the
former has been relegated to special
senses like fancy dress or masquerade
wear, while "fashion" generally means
clothing, including the study of it. Although
aspects of fashion can be feminine or
masculine, some trends are androgynous.

WhatdoesGoingDutchmean? 02
"Going Dutch" is a term that indicates
that each person participating in a group
activity pays for themselves, rather than
any person paying for anyone else,
particularly in a restaurant bill. It is also
called Dutch date, Dutch treat.
There are two possible senses, each
person paying his own expenses, or the
entire bill being split (divided evenly)
between all participants. In strict usage,
"Going Dutch" refers to the former,
paying one's own expenses, and the
latter is referred to as "splitting the bill",
but in casual usage these may both be
referred to as "going Dutch".

"Hanged, as a past tense and a past participle of hang, is used in the sense of
to put to death by hanging, as in Frontier courts hanged many a prisoner
after a summary trial.
A majority of the Usage Panel objects to hung used in this sense. In all other
senses of the word, hung is the preferred form as past tense and past
participle, as in I hung my child's picture above my desk.
Don't mention a rope in the house of one whose father was hanged.
"A room hung with pictures is a room hung with thoughts." (Joshua
Reynolds)
"The sheriff's deputies, who hanged the horse thief at night, are expected
to hang around until they are sober, after which they could well end up
with hanged or hung looks on their faces--and hangovers for sure."

GrammarFocus:Thinkof,thinkabout Selfstudy 08
There is a difference between "think of" and "think about."
Some examples of "think of":
A: "What did you think of Mary Jones's speech?"
B: "I didn't think much of it."
A is asking B's opinion on Mary Jones's speech. B replies that she did not
think it was a very good speech.
In other contexts, to think of something means you're at least aware of
the thing, but may not have given it a great deal of consideration. If you
think about something this normally implies more focused or extended
attention.
"I never thought of doing that!" (that possibility never crossed my mind).
"Have you thought about my birthday present?" (have you
considered/decided what to get me?)

Retirement
What is retirement? 02
Retirement is the point where a person stops employment completely. A
person may also semi-retire by reducing work hours.
Many people choose to retire when they are eligible for private or public
pension benefits, although some are forced to retire when physical conditions
no longer allow the person to work any longer (by illness or accident) or as a
result of legislation concerning their position
Vocabulary around retirement 03
Pension. This is money saved through a scheme to enable you to receive
money when you retire. The age of retirement differs from country to
country.
What age can you retire in China?
Semi-retire. When you semi-retire it means you cut down the hours you
work. For example the average working week in England is 40 hours. If you
retire, this is reduced to 20. It gives you more time to relax at home.
What age would you like to retire?
If you delay retirement it means you continue to work. Many working people
find this better because they find being at home a Little boring.
Word power 04
You may live longer than you think. According to the National Center for
Health Statistics, out of all 65-year-olds in America today, about 1 in 4 will live
to age 90. For the average 65-year-old couple living in America today, you can
double the odds that at least one will live to age 90. With many people living
into their 90s, savings often need to last a long time after retirement.
