Prof. Kumars passion for Family Law convinced him to study the principles of ancient
Indian legal theory and compare them with Western theories of law. This comparative law
insight ignited in him the desire to study Hindu jurisprudence. Consequently, he specialised
in personal laws and then undertook his Ph.D. on Sonship and Adoption under Hindu Law.
The thesis provided him with an opportunity to study a range of classical texts in the original.
His research areas include the impact of divorce on children, irretrievable Breakdown of
Marriage, live-in relationship and its impact in society, custody of children, adoption,
doctrine of relationship, re-defined coparcenary under Mitakshara Hindu law, doctrine of
pious-obligation, Matrimonial Property Law in Indian, Causes of Divorce in India, Shared
Parental Responsibility, and pre-nuptial agreement in India and surrogacy related issues.
