GARNET-BIOTITE THERMOMETER - Seven Calibrations

This spreadsheet allows users to calculate garnet-biotite thermometry temperatures using compositional data from seven different calibrations. Users input cation data and the spreadsheet calculates temperatures using formulas from Bhattacharya et al. 1992, Dasgupta 1991, Ferry and Spear 1978, Holdaway and Lee 1977, and Thompson 1976. A chart compares the temperature results graphically from the different calibrations.

GARNET-BIOTITE THERMOMETER - Seven calibrations

This spreadsheet calculates and compares seven popular calibrations of the

garnet-biotite Fe-Mg exchange thermometer. To make it work, enter your data in the
green Input page in cations per formula unit. (size of formula unit immaterial - cations
get normalised first) Then, on pages Results, Work1 and Work2, copy the formulae in
columns A to J or K from the row beneath the headings so that the block is as large as
your block of data. You can do this in a single operation by selecting the three sheets
together before you do the copy operation on any one of them. Now the results should
have appeared on the red page.

There is a chart on the last page which offers a crude sample-to-sample comparison.
