Aust - Abuja: Materials Science Track

This document provides guidelines for Project 2 of a Materials Science track on kinetics at AUST-Abuja. It states that teams of up to 3 students can work together to submit a single typed solution report containing solutions to all questions. The report should include the names of team members and follow these steps for each problem: describe the problem, show the step-by-step solution using equations, develop a MATLAB script to obtain results, and discuss the results using graphs/tables to explain their meaning and accuracy. Both the report and MATLAB code must be submitted.

Guidelines for Project 2

A team of up to 3 students can work on the project; thus we can have 1-member, 2-
member or 3-member teams.
Each team will submit one set of solutions, handwritten or typewritten. Since you would
be required to submit via email as well (see below) it is more convenient if your write-up
is typed in a word processor instead of hand-written.
The solution report will include solutions to all the questions.
The first page of the solution report should have the names of all team members.

For each solution report do the following:

Write out the problem statement (you can copy and paste from what is provided on
Google docs)
Develop the step-by-step solution; in other words describe how you are solving the
problem using equations to illustrate as necessary.
Develop the MATLAB script or function m-file. Run this m-file to obtain results.
Discuss the results using graphs and/or tables to help tell your story. For example you can
talk about how accurate the results are, how consistent the results are with the initial or
boundary conditions, whether the results make sense; if you know the physical system
that gave the model, try to tell us whether the solution is a good approximation to the
physical system, etc.
Submit both the solution report and the MATLAB script or function m-file so the
instructor can run and verify your results. The submission should be printed and given to
the instructor. You should also submit via email.
