Initiative #1895 Void Management

Initiative Description

During historic mining at Kencana, the relatively poor ground support system in use
(splitsets, SC and mesh) has resulted in a large amount of fall of grounds.
The majority of these fall of grounds have resulted in large amounts of failed material and
voids. Generally these fall of grounds are in the highest grade areas of Kencana where the
ground conditions are poorest.

Due to the requirement to maintain safety and stability, at present these fall of
grounds are bypassed. This results in ore sterilisation and potentially large amounts of
development requirements in waste to bypass fall of grounds. Significant safety conccerns
when working around these unconsolidated/fall of ground areas.

This project is about using void filling products and ground consolidation products (ie.
foaming agents, resins, microsilica cements, cements etc) and pumps (resin and high
pressure grouting) to rehabilitate fall of ground areas. This should enable safe passage
through these zones to recover maximum high grade ore, limit ore sterilization, limit
personell exposure to FOG areas, and increase development rates.

Using specialized fill products develop better void management techniques at

Kencana and Toguraci use a combination of chemical and cementitious products to reliably
and rapidly fill voids encountered at Kencana (potentially at Toguraci also)
Improved production reliability particularly in high grade poor ground zones, reduced
sterilization of ore.

Key Decisions and interdependencies

Aim for reduced delays to production, Extensive probing requirements currently,

Inefficient use of equipment and resources, Difficulties and risks (personell and paste retic
system) to place paste into unknown voids etc.
Excessive use of ground support
Reduced safety risk in working around FOG
Requirement for large development costs to bypass FOG
Ounces can be permanantly sterilized beneath or adjacent to FOG, or ounces delayed

Estimated $5m per year in lost revenue, loss of ore to sterilization x 3 years and
costs that could be saved. Will be important when re-accessing upper remnant areas to
respond quicky for voids etc. Cost avoidance is considered for un-necessary development
meter by pass if not doing this initiative
