CFP - Device To Device

The document calls for papers for a special issue of the ACM/Springer Mobile Networks & Applications journal on device-to-device communication in 5G networks. Device-to-device communication allows devices to directly communicate without infrastructure. This issue aims to broadly cover aspects of D2D in 5G including networking techniques, energy efficiency, quality of service, and technologies like WiFi-Direct. Papers are invited on topics such as device discovery methods, latency reduction, optimization techniques, and heterogeneous network interfaces. The submission deadline is May 13, 2016.

SPECIAL ISSUE ON
Device-to-Device Communication in 5G Networks
http://www.springer.com/engineering/signals/journal/

Overview:
Device-to-device (D2D) communication technology for fifth generation (5G) mobile networks enables user equipment (UE) to
communicate directly with other UEs without or with partial involvement of the network infrastructure, such as mobile access points
or mobile base stations. There are several popular low-level D2D techniques available, and typically they use unlicensed cellular
bands, such as Bluetooth and WiFi-Direct. Most of these technologies do not support direct over-the-air communication between end
users. The traditional cellular network is based on the cells, which are the fundamental unit within the radio access network. To
achieve the device-centric communication envisaged for 5G networks, there is a need for a fundamental change in the design
structure of current cellular networks. This is indeed at the core for device-centric communication, leading to different mobile base
station density, micro-clouds on base stations, more alternatives for frequency re-usability, and additional spectrum coexistence of
frequency bands.
In this special issue, we intend to broadly cover various aspects of D2D communication in 5G networks. The purpose of this
special issue is thus to bring together state-of-the-art studies by researchers and practitioners that describe original and unpublished
work with respect to novel scalable techniques and frameworks that are capable to analyze and shape the future of device-centric
communication in the next generation of mobile communication.
