The hunger games is an annual event


where one girl and one boy between the ages of
12 and 18 will be chosen from each of the 12
districts to fight for their lives to be the last
person standing. It serves as a punishment for
the previous rebellion against the capitol.

(Book #1 of The Hunger Games Trilogy)
Author: Suzanne Collins
Premise: Katniss Everdeen is a seventeen year-old girl living
in District 12, who volunteers to take her younger sisters place
in the 74th Hunger Games.
Hook: This book is very suspenseful and dramatic with some
science fiction. The story is unpredictable and may keep you
thinking about what could happen next. (recommended for 12
years-old and up)

Characters:
Katniss Everdeen is a responsible and brave seventeen
year-old girl who loves her little sister, Prim very much. Since
her father died, she took the responsibility of taking care of
her mother and sister by hunting and trading for food. She
loved her sister very much that she volunteered to take Prims
place in the 74th Hunger Games.
Peeta Mellark is the son of a baker, so he is very well fed.
He is very artistic, because hes used to decorating cakes and
pastries and can camouflage himself very well. He is also very
strong because he is able to lift really heavy sacks of food in
and out the bakery. He was chosen to be the male
representative for District 12 in the 74th Hunger Games.
Gale Hawthorne is Katnisss best friend and hunting
partner. He promises to take care of Katnisss family while shes
at the Hunger Games.
Haymitch Abernathy is the only surviving Hunger Games
victor in District 12. After winning the 25th Hunger Games,
President Snow kills everyone he loves. He is now an alcoholic
and is forced to become Katniss and Peetas mentor for the
74th Hunger Games.
Primrose Everdeen or Prim is Katnisss 12 year-old sister.
She is a sweet, thoughtful and caring girl who is good in
healing people. She was chosen to be District 12s female
representative for the Hunger Games until her sister, Katniss
volunteers to take her place.
Rue is District 11s female representative. She is a shy and
sneaky 12 year-old girl, who reminds Katniss of her younger
sister Prim. She becomes Katnisss ally in the Hunger Games,
but is killed later.

Genre:

This book is a very suspenseful book with lots of action and


some violence. It also has some dramatic scenes and has some
science fiction as well.
