Significance of the study:

The result of this study has a huge significant to the following:

Students
For them to become aware of the effectiveness of memory
enhancers and their benefits to their academic performance. And this
study also aims to provide them the necessary date that will stir them
to do essential action for their improvement.

Future Users
For them to know the efficacy of the memory enhancers and for
them to choose which product will benefit them the most, much safer,
affordable and suited for their needs.

Pharmaceutical Companies
For them to learn more about the reactions and opinions of
consumer about their products. This study will also challenge them to
create and produce a new product that is more effective, safer, and
could benefit the user.

Future Researchers
Those who intend to continue this study might choose research
as a reference to provide them a great of information. This study also
stimulate production or generation of new ideas and might as well
improve research process.

Parents/ Guardians
This study will provide information to the parents about what
kind of medication or drugs do their children take, if it is safe to their
health and if it really has a positive effect to the academic performance
of their children.
Hypothesis:

Ha: There is a significant relationship between the use of


memory enhancers and the academic performance of selected nursing
students of OLFU, Valenzuela.

Ho: There is no significant relationship between the use of


memory enhancers and the academic performance of selected nursing
students of OLFU, Valenzuela.

The most important experimental observation was the


effect of scopolamine a cholinergic blocking agent on M/C functions.
When the drug was administered to normal young subjects, memory
storage was seriously impaired, while immediate memory span was
spared. In addition, the performance IQ on the Wechsler Adult
Intelligence Scale was diminished, while the verbal IQ remained intact.
Further behavioral studies indicated that scopolamine also reduced
cognitive channel capacity, as measured by a dichotic listening test.
Examination of these data suggested to us that the pattern of cognitive
function, which proposed two points:
1. intact cholinergic functions is necessary, but not
sufficient condition for memory and cognitive functions
and
2. M/C impairment seen in normal aging and dementia may
be due to impairment of the cholinergic neural system in
the brain.
