Organic peroxides are generally understood to be the most hazardous form of dangerous goods for marine transportation. The hazard posed by a substance can arise from a dangerous reaction with other substances in the surrounding environment. Substances presenting a low level of danger are assigned to packing group III. The proper shipping name and UN number of a substance must be listed on the dangerous goods form so that the master has the necessary information to report a pollution incident involving that substance. Drums will be stowed upright according to the IMDG Code requirements.
