Foreword
Many people think that astrology is just
about predicting the future. Actually,
astrology provides a blueprint of the
universe. It presents us with an elaborate
set of symbols for the invisible energies
that surround us as well as a
categorization for everything in our
experience. Indeed, the living book of
astrology is with us at all times. There is
order to the universe, and astrology
provides a road map for order.

The problem that surfaces with a

misunderstanding about astrological
concepts is the result of semantics. For
example, when the ancients referred to
the “elements,” they were not talking
about the more than 100 or so elements
of the periodic table that we have
identified to date. (It will probably be
found that there are at least 144 such
elements that exhibit varying degrees of
stability). They were referring to a broad
classification of things into four general
categories that they called Fire, Earth, Air
and Water.

Think on this: if you look around you,

everything that you can perceive can be

4
lumped into one of four categories:
Energy, Solids, Gases, and Liquids, i.e.,
four elements, Fire, Earth, Air, and Water!
There is, however, a tradition that allows
for a “Quintessence,” a fifth element that
is theorized to exist. In ordinary life,
however, the previous categories stand
sufficient. Consider further that there are
four blood groups, four DNA bases, and
four forces that physicists are trying to
reconcile into a “Theory of Everything”
(T.O.E.) or Grand Unified Theory (G.U.T.)
– which are the strong force, weak force,
electromagnetism and gravity. In an
astrological chart, there are four “power”
points called angles that are identified as
the Ascendant (rising sign), Descendant
(seventh house cusp), the Midheaven,
and the Nadir. Planets and signs
connected with these sectors receive
added emphasis during chart analysis.

Finally, when discussing planets, signs

and houses we are actually talking about
categories of life. For instance, anytime
you put honey on your food, kiss your
sweetheart, decorate your home, or wear
perfume, you are dealing with the planet
Venus. Every time you hear a siren, see
a policeman or someone in the military,
hear or participate in an argument, see
the color red, handle sharp objects like
knives or pins, you are dealing with

5
martial, i.e., Mars forces. This is astrology
in the real world.

Astrological concepts bear permanent

relationships to one another, and this is
what astrology strives to assess – the
interactions between the signs, planets,
elements, and the relationships between
them in our daily lives. We know that Fire
is extinguished by Water, and that Air can
blow Earth around. We know that Water
nourishes Earth, and that Fire and Air are
compatible. It is these kinds of
relationships that provide the
underpinnings for the artscience of
astrology and that are encoded in
astrological language.

INTRODUCTION
This guide provides an opportunity for
individuals that want to learn astrology but
do not want to specialize in the
mathematics that is necessary for the
creation of accurate charts. The focus of
this monograph, therefore, is to provide a
delineation tool for beginning astrologers
as well as a handy reference guide for
those with more experience. It is
recommended that computerized charts
be used, in that they are very accurate
and take a fraction of the time that it takes
to painstakingly construct accurate charts
by hand. It is hoped that interest is piqued
enough to encourage those who want to
delve further into the subject to do so.
Basic astrology concepts are the focus of
this monograph, and will help interested
people become familiar with them.

7
KEY POINTS

The four basic areas of Astrology 1are:

• PLANETS
• SIGNS
• HOUSES
• ASPECTS

The planets are psychological urges. There are

10 “planets.”

The signs modify the planets, i.e.,

psychological urges.

The houses indicate the playing field, i.e.,

where the urges will manifest. There are twelve
houses of 30 degrees each.

The aspects are the force or strength

indicators of the planets. Specific distances
may link them to each other, and these links
can be considered harmonious or
inharmonious. There are seven major aspects
that are commonly used in Astrology, though
there are others that are used for advanced
delineations.

Synthesis and Point of Balance can be
used to mitigate this flow.

ARIES-March 21 to April 19--Whenever

a person born during this period
recognizes you anywhere, at any time, or
comes to your home, phones you, etc., it
is a message from the planet Mars.
Someone at that moment desires your
personal safety, and this Aries person in
the course of conversation will answer a
temporary personal problem that is
confronting you; be careful of accidents or
irritations when the person leaves. Also,
take courage and use boldness in the
next contact to you for success.

TAURUS-April 20 to May 20--This

person brings a message from the planet
Venus. It is a message presiding
temporarily in your interest in the
disbursing of your finances. Someone at
that moment wants you to be satisfied.
Within 24 hours, you will, or should, spend
money for your future needs or money will
be invested to your advantage. Increased

36
earning power will come to you through
expense or investment, and property in
some form will be involved. Take bold
actions in your expenses or investments.

GEMINI-May 21 to June 21--Message

from Mercury that you are backed in
affairs of communication or local travel.
Someone at that moment is thinking of
writing, wiring, or telephoning you. If the
Gemini person is friendly, the message
will be pleasant. You will receive mail
within 24 hours and you should send mail
that day. You could profit from a short
trip. Immediately use the telephone for
accurate, quick information and sales.
Good time to demonstrate activity on your
mailing list.

CANCER-June 22 to July 22--Message

that you may expect an immediate
change. If the Cancer person is friendly,
the change will be for the better.
Someone at that moment has your
mother, children, or home in mind. If the
visit occurs in the home there will be a
change in home or social activities. In
business, conditions there will change.
Present plans will change. For example,
if you have a sick child and a Cancer
friend or relative calls and inquires about

37
him or her, the sick child will experience a
change at once.

LEO-July 23 to August 22--Message

that the Sun is behind you to make your
plans succeed. Go ahead; advance your
own personal or business interests.
Someone at that moment honors you, and
you can expect preferment of some kind.
It may not necessarily come from the Leo
person. No one will receive an honor or
invitation unless a Leo contact is made
first. It could be an invitation to a
wedding, dinner, shower, luncheon,
lecture, promotion, or higher title, church,
or organization announcements affecting
you. Accept all invitations, the business or
social event will be to your benefit. This
period ends when a Scorpio contacts you
indicating a need for you to rest.

VIRGO-August 23 to September 22--

Message from Mercury concerning your
health or your clothing. Someone is
concerned about your health. You
should, perhaps, get a check-up. Buy
new clothes, as you will need them
quickly, or, change clothes. A big change
in the temperature is due. If the Virgo
person is friendly, the weather change will
improve your health. Watch or change

38
your diet or you may need medical
attention. Guard your health.

LIBRA-September 23 to October 22--

Message from Venus represents love and
harmony, love will follow or relationships
will be restored. Someone at that
moment loves you. If you have had a
bitter argument that is upsetting your
equilibrium in the office or home,
conflicting wills will be subdued. When
Libra departs, harmonious relationships
will have been restored. If there are no
emotional upsets, love may follow quickly.
You will be socially popular in the
following 48 hours. If the Libra person is
friendly, be active socially, if serious,
someone dear to you feels hurt.

SCORPIO-October 23 to November 21-

-Message from Pluto, transformation,
death, reincarnation. Take a rest with
what you are doing; taxes, wills, estate
matters or insurance need attention. Stop
your personal activities for the present.
The total impact manifests four days. The
rest period should continue until Leo
contacts you again. Everyone should
have periods to forge ahead balanced by
periods when a rest should be taken.
Scorpio indicates when rest periods
should be taken.

39
SAGITTARIUS-November 22 to
December 21--Message from Jupiter--this
is a time for financial transactions.
Someone at that moment wants to spend
their money with you. Money will come to
you within 48 hours, but usually within 6
hours. Your finances need attention and
you should be careful to spend money
wisely. Take a long trip, or advertise.
Start large scale spending.

CAPRICORN-December 22 to January
19--Message from the planet Saturn
about the roles of discipline and
responsibility. Someone at that moment
is remembering that you have not fulfilled
a past due obligation. If the Capricorn
individual is friendly, the delay is
excusable; if serious, the delay is
inexcusable. Amends must be made.
Saturn's message is "You need rest this
hour and then attend to your duties and
assume your responsibilities!" After one
hour, you will become more busy. In
addition, your land or property needs
attention.
AQUARIUS-January 20 to February 18--
Message that the unexpected and
suddenness will occur within 24 hours.
Someone at that moment wants you to
have an opportunity. If the Aquarian is
friendly, the opportunity will be easy to

40
handle. A serious Aquarian indicates
difficulty. Use the spectacular to further
your interests. An Aquarian will provide
an answer to a problem accurately, but
the Aquarian must be asked. The answer
will have long-range effects.

PISCES-February 19 to March 20--

Message from Neptune informing you that
a promotion, disappointment, or deception
of some kind is about to follow. The
Piscean will not be involved. If the
Piscean smiles, someone at that moment
is promoting you. If the Piscean frowns,
someone is gossiping about you and the
next person contacting you will attempt to
deceive you but the Piscean will not be
involved. The messenger will point out
the best overall strategy of action on a
problem facing you. It's time to promote
yourself.
NOW THAT YOU HAVE THE INFORMATION, TEST IT FOR
YOURSELF. IN ADDITION TO THE MESSAGES BROUGHT
BY PEOPLE, THERE ARE ALSO EQUIVALENT CONTACTS
WITH THINGS. SINCE EVERYTHING CAN BE CLASSIFIED
IN ONE OF THE TWELVE CATEGORIES, IT IS POSSIBLE
TO DECODE THE FLOW OF LIFE IF YOU KNOW THE
GUIDEPOSTS. FOR EXAMPLE, IF YOU GO TO THE
LAUNDROMAT, IT IS EQUIVALENT TO A VIRGO
CONTACT; OR IF YOU COME INTO CONTACT WITH SALT
THERE IS A MESSAGE FROM LIBRA.
