Thunderbolt 3 Overview

Thunderbolt 3 brings Thunderbolt connectivity to USB-C ports and cables, providing speeds up to 40Gbps, enough bandwidth for one 5K or two 4K displays from a single cable. It supports more protocols than any other I/O controller, allowing connection of docks, devices, and displays including billions of USB devices. The second device port on Thunderbolt devices operates the same as the computer port, supporting Thunderbolt, USB, and DisplayPort protocols and allowing daisy-chaining of up to six devices. Thunderbolt 3 can provide up to 100W of power for charging notebooks or 15W to bus-powered devices.
