Adapt Climate Change

Climate change is caused primarily by human activities such as burning fossil fuels and converting land for agriculture and forestry. Adaptation actions include considering climate change in infrastructure design like coastal defenses, preventing flooding, and policies around water and heat wave management. Disaster risk reduction involves reducing risks through efforts to analyze and address the underlying causes of disasters, while improving preparedness, reducing exposure and vulnerability, and managing land and the environment wisely.

Stephanie: Good morning mam

Deign: Good morning too

Stephanie: Maam we have a few questions to ask which is related to
Climate Change Adaptation and Disaster Risk Reduction,
Deign: Okay.
Stephanie: First of all mam, what are the main causes why we are facing
Climate Change nowadays
Deign: Well, actually, Climate change is a long-term shift in
weather conditions identified by changes in temperature,
precipitation, winds, and other indicators. Some causes are
natural but most of it are manmade such as the burning of fossil
fuels and the conversion of land for forestry and agriculture.
Stephanie: So how can we apply the Climate Change Adaptation into
actions?
Deign: Some adaptation is occurring now, to observed and projected
future climate change, but on a limited basis.
There is growing evidence since the IPCC Third Assessment of
human activity to adapt to observed and anticipated climate
change. For example, climate change is considered in the design of
infrastructure projects such as coastal defence in the Maldives and
The Netherlands, and the Confederation Bridge in Canada. Other
examples include prevention of glacial lake outburst flooding in
Nepal, and policies and strategies such as water management in
Australia and government responses to heat-waves in, for example,
some European countries.
Disaster risk reduction is about choices.

Disaster risk reduction is the concept and practice of reducing disaster risks through systematic efforts to analyse and
reduce the causal factors of disasters. Reducing exposure to hazards, lessening vulnerability of people and property, wise
management of land and the environment, and improving preparedness and early warning for adverse events are all
examples of disaster risk reduction.
