Mathalino - Double Integration Method

The double integration method can be used to determine beam deflections at any point by deriving an equation for the elastic curve of the beam. This method involves twice integrating the bending moment equation EIy''=M to obtain expressions for the slope y' and deflection y containing constants of integration. These constants are determined from the boundary conditions of the specific beam problem. For a simply supported beam with a concentrated load at midspan, applying this process gives the maximum deflection δmax = PL3/48EI.
