And thats because Im stuck with a life threatening disease.

CLAIRE (16) a Caucasian girl, wearing a black bandana, a plain

shirt and some black leggings, is sat upright on her bed
writing a letter.

CLAIRE: (Voiceover)

Ive always taken advantage of things that came to me without

a cost or time limit, but when I realised that something as
vital as my life could be taken from me without any warning, I
finally decided to be grateful for what I have and the people
who have been by my side while I still have the time.

SCENE 2:

FLASHBACK

Claire and her mum are having dinner together laughing and
discussing school. (Silent)

CLAIRE (Voiceover)

I shouldve told you this ages ago, mum, but I was always too
selfish to acknowledge all the things you did to help me once
we found out about my leukaemia. I remember the times you
worked extra hours to make enough money for my treatment; all
those times you took time off work to come with me to hospital
appointments; and all those tears you cried because you didnt
know how to cope. I just want you to know that I love and
appreciate you and I always will.

PRESENT DAY

INT. HER ROOM

SCENE 3:

FLASHBACK

Claire is at a park with her close friend, Isabel, on a set of

swings.

ISABEL

I bet I can swing higher than you.

CLAIRE

You know Im better than you at competitions, remember when we

tried to see who could eat the most marshmallows in ten
seconds?

ISABEL

Thats not fair, I had braces at the time. This time Ill
definitely win.

Both girls aim to see who can swing the highest before they
both jump off and laugh at each other.

FADE:

PRESENT DAY

INT. HER ROOM

CLAIRE: (Voiceover)

I never really thanked you for being such a great friend to

me, Isabel, you were with me through everything, from when I
started my first day in secondary to helping me with my first
date. I couldnt be more grateful for a friend like you.

On a lighter note, I cant wait for tomorrow because its the

day I finally get to see my new niece.

SCENE 4:

Claire continues to write until her eyelids start to gradually

close. She reaches over to her desk to try and put the letter
down with the pen but the pen drops from her hand and hits the
floor. The sound of the heart monitor going flat is heard in
the background.
