Folks,
I could use some help...
As part of my new garage to workshop fit out I bought a second hand Pioneer stereo system
for 10 from ebay to put in it. Its a Pioneer XC-L7 that's probably about 10 years old,
expensive in its day. The seller couldn't find the speaker cables, but the smaller speakers
are just bare end cable connectors so I've wired those fine. The larger subwoofer speaker

connects with bare ends at the speaker end, but with a plastic two prong push fit connector

Radio Shack has a reasonable collection on electrical connectors. I'd try there first.

Did a little bit of searching, other folks seem to have a problem finding a mate to your
connector.
One used two - single connectors.
BTW Here's the owners manual:

That is a speaker connection for a single subwoofer. The connector is specially shaped so
that you do not accidentally connect a regular speaker to this high-voltage line, and blow
your speaker.
A single subwoofer will suffice, rather than stereo (two), because at subwoofer frequencies,
stereo separation is not distinguishable. Polarity, though, is very important. Here is
what you can do:
If you have a single subwoofer, and would like to use it, I suggest this:
- From Radio Shack or an electronics shop, obtain two alligator clip connections, preferrably
black and red.
2012 GTV 300 & LXV 150
- Connect the raw wire ends of the alligator clips to speaker wire, again preferrably black

Location: Pacific Northwest a clear plastic insulator is fine. Designate the silver to be "black" and the brass to be "red".
- Connect the speaker wire to your subwoofer, with the red (or brass) on red, and black (or
silver) on black.
Hope this helps.

It's sold in Maplins as a power connector for radio control models, and is the same
connector that Optimate used until very recently. If it's being used as a 100V line connector
then polarity isn't important - but it could be (and probably is) a DC feed with audio
superimposed.

Thanks for that, great tip. Scribd wanted $9 for a days access, but as you'd given me the
thought, I found also found the manual on getmanual.com for $5 (3ish to me) and now
have a PDF copy of it from them

I've emailed Donberg - they don't have an online store, so you can't buy instantly, but they

Couldn't you simply crimp the subwoofer wires to the output you circled in your picture? You
don't need to shell out a penny....

I'd thought about that, but I think JimC is right above, that the cable carries a DC power feed
down to run the larger speaker, as well as an audio feed, in the same cable. This gives me a
glitch because I hadn't realised this earlier, and I set in a run of standard speaker cable when
fitting in a worktop and cabinet, figuring that once I knew what the connector was, I could cut
back the cable and add it, and it'd be job done with a neat out-of-sight cable run.
Assuming I can get the correct cable from Donberg that Jess found for me, I'll have to unscrew
the worktop etc, remove the pre-fitted cable and add the new one I think they call that
'project fun'...

Just get thee to Maplins and buy one of these:
http://www.maplin.co.uk/kyosho-race-pack-connector-11474
Crimp to your current wiring, just check polarity if necessary.

That's the one!
Paul, Are you sure the woofer has a DC power feed? I have never come across this in all my
days as DJ in the 80's. Have things changed that much?

It's not that unusual to have a DC feed (often with audio superimposed, sometimes on an
RF carrier) for powered speakers, especially sub-woofers.

It's often a good solution for mono distributed audio, such as in a pub or large canteen,
where you need to have local individual volume control on a multitude of speakers (say six
or more). Organising that lot with just a single power amp output would be a nightmare -
far better to have a small amp in each speaker enclosure, with its own volume control. No
mains wiring or extra power supplies needed, just feed DC (or low voltage AC) from the
central point with audio on top, each speaker is paralleled across it.
