How Do I Install Tex/Latex On Windows: Share Improve This Question

There are two main options for installing TeX/LaTeX on Windows: TeX Live and MiKTeX. Both are good choices and it does not matter much which one is selected. However, it is important to install the full version with all packages instead of a minimal version. TeXworks is included as a basic editor but some students had problems with it; TeXstudio is a good alternative. Be sure not to install TeX/LaTeX in the Program Files folder and avoid paths with spaces to prevent authorization and tool issues.

up You can choose between TeX Live and MiKTeX. In practice it

does not make a difference which distribution you use.

Especially if you are new to LaTeX. However you should take
own care that you install the full version, with all packages, and not

a minimal or base version.

You get MiKTeX from here (choose the 'MiKTeX 2.9 Net
Installer') and TeX Live here.
Both install a basic editor (TeXworks). I have the experience
from my workshops with students, that they have problems
with that editor. I introduced TeXstudio which worked quite
well in the lectures.

There is at least another TeX distribution, too: W32TeX. Its also interest
MiKTeX users, because it provides some tools as Windows binaries missi
MiKTeX, especially xindy and thelcdf-typetools. Speravir Jan 21 '12 at 20:1
