CEP 416-Universal Design for Learning

YOUR NAME: Hayley Crouchman

ACTIVITY GOAL(S):
To use websites such as Prezi and google docs to collect notes and make a presentation of the important events of the
American Revolution. Beyond learning these events, students will create a presentation that shows what they have
learned that they will then use for an assessment at the end.

TECHNOLOGIES USED FOR ACTIVITY (please provide a URL link to it if applicable):

EVALUATION

If your technology provides support for UDL principles (e.g., 4 out of 6 principles), what are other
student challenges or preferences that you could anticipate in this activity?

Some challenges that I could anticipate for this activity would be the only learning about the basic facts of the
American Revolution, rather than fully understanding and remembering the events. This may result in a very
surface level understanding of the topic. To help with this problem, additional resources may need to be
included in order to make sure that the students meet the standards for this lesson. Although there are other
options and can be made easier for students, it may still be difficult as the structure of their presentation is up
to them. With that being said, a template or example presentation may be used to help students that need the
extra push. This is important because the students are still able to participate in the activity as well as getting
access to technology to help better their education.

REFLECTION
(participation points for this week).

Briefly describe your thoughts about the UDL-ization process:

1) How is UDL changing how you view technology for teaching and learning?
UDL allows for more flexibility with teaching, especially with the use of technology. It helps to remind
myself as a future teacher, that there are many aspects of a lesson that may be overlooked. The
principles that need to be included help to make the activity easier for every student. This is important
because it helps to strengthen the use of technology in the classroom to becoming more of a benefit to
the students rather than just a new and exciting tool.

2) How will you implement UDL in your future classroom?

I will make sure that there are ways that each learner can participate in my lessons when it comes to
future activities. I will use the principles that are included (numbers depend on the relevance to the
lesson) in order to make sure every student is able to understand and that the lessons have reached
their full ability. Since I plan to become a special education teacher, I will also use UDL as a way to
include all of my students. This will require extra thinking and accommodations for some, but allows
everyone to participate!
