Exercise: Apply a heading style

Formatting of a heading, styles and creating a table of contents.

From disk V:\ copy the file EN_text_MRI.docx to your own folder in disk H:\
In file properties tick off read-only.

1. First page editing:


At the beginning of the article, add the heading of "Magnetic Resonance", align it to the
center and set the appropriate font size (or move about the first third of the page, see. draft).
a. Under the heading, add your name or a fictitious name, align it to the center
and set the appropriate font size (you can also insert the name of the faculty or
study programme).
b. At the end of the first page, paste the text "Prague 2017", "align it to the center
and set the appropriate font size.
2. Customize a heading and paragraph style for your text.
A. Customize a new heading style with name Text, Style type: Pragraph
Style based on: Normal, font: Times New Roman, size: 12, alignment Justified,
indentation: 6 pt before

On the Home tab, in the Styles group, In the Paragraph group, click the Alignment drop-
down menu (arrow in the low right corner), choose new Style. Give it a name Text.
Indentation can be found under the button format

B. Modify the formatting of a style Heading 1 as: style based on text, style of following
paragraph text, font: Arial, other things leave without changes.
On the Home tab, in the Styles group, right-click the style that you want to change.

C. Modify the formatting of a style Heading 2 as: style based on text, font: Arial, other
things leave without changes.
On the Home tab, in the Styles group, right-click the style that you want to change.

3. Format the document with the new styles Text, Heading 1 and Heading 2
For the heading of 1st level use Headings 1 (abstract, medical use, procedure, references)
style, for 2nd level use Headings 2 ( Neuroimaging a Cardiovascular, Contrast ...)
and for other text use Text style.
4. Modify font size of a style Text to be 10 px. All text with the style that you changed will
automatically change to match the new style that you defined.

5. Before the first chapter Abstract" insert table of contents.


Click where you want to insert the table of content usually near the beginning of a document.

Click References > Table of Contents and then choose an Automatic Table from the gallery of styles.

6. Erase the whole chapter Phase-Contrast MRI (heading and the text) and update the table
of content so the change will apply
Update: Click on the table of contents and use the red exclamation mark.
