PSA Lab - Exp 10 - Filled

1. The document describes an experiment involving modeling different configurations of three-phase transformers in MATLAB/Simulink to analyze zero-sequence current flow. 2. Five cases are examined: a YY transformer with both sides grounded, a YY transformer with the primary grounded and secondary ungrounded, a ΔΔ transformer, a YΔ transformer with the Y side ungrounded, and a YΔ transformer with the Y side grounded. 3. For each case, the document records the zero-sequence currents entering and leaving the transformer, sketches the equivalent zero-sequence circuit, and may derive the zero-sequence impedance.

Sequence Circuits of Three Phase Transformers

Objectives:
To learn about zero-sequence current flow in three phase transformer topologies.

Lab Tasks:

1. Simulate the circuit shown in MATLAB / Simulink.

2. Build the three phase transformer using individual single phase transformers (with 1:1
ratio) with neutral resistance of 0.1 . For transformer parameters, use SI units with R =
0.1 and L = 1 mH.
3. Use different topologies of three phase transformer for the given circuit and find out
about zero sequence current flow.

Case 1: YY transformer; both sides grounded

1. Determine zero sequence current entering and leaving the transformer using zero
sequence measurement blocks.

I(0)primary = Ip(0) = 25.92 /-55.89o A I(0)secondary = Is(0) = 25.92/-55.89 o A

2. Determine zero sequence impedance of this transformer. To do this, measure zero
sequence voltages on both sides of the transformer.

V(0)primary = Vp(0) = 49.42/-36.65 o V V(0)secondary = Vs(0) = 25.92/-55.89 o V

V (0) (0)

3. Derive Z0 from Z0 = Z + 3ZN + 3(N1/N2)2 Zn.

Z = Leakage impedance of transformer (Primary as well as Secondary referred to primary side)

Z = 2.{ (0.1)+(2 . pi .50 . 1x10-3)i }
Z0 = Z +3(0.1)+3(1)(0.1)
Z0 = 1.017 /38.14o
4. Sketch zero sequence circuit of this transformer.
