(b) house seats cost $5.00 each
5 Create a pie chart showing the percentage of persons sitting in house seats for the
week.

Activity 2

Caribbean Airlines flies from Barbados to St Lucia four (4) times a day. The rates are
as follows.
Babies of 2 years and under: Free
Children under 12: Half price
Adults: $325.00

1 Retrieve the spreadsheet file Flights from the CD.


2 Enter the heading Caribbean Airlines flight record.
3 Enter the formula to calculate the total number of passengers travelling that day.
4 Enter the formula to calculate the revenue earned by the airline for:
(a) babies
(b) children
(c) adults.
5 Enter the formula to calculate the total number of passengers per flight.
6 Enter the formula to calculate the maximum number of passengers travelling on the
flights that day.
7 Enter the formula to calculate the minimum number of passengers travelling on the
flights that day.
8 Create a column chart to compare the number of passengers travelling on the four
flights.
9 Save the worksheet as Flights2.
Activity 3

An interior designer has a number of houses to decorate. She has decided to purchase
carpeting for a number of rooms in these houses at the same time,as she would get a
reduction in cost for buying in bulk.

Cost per square metre: $11.99.

1 Retrieve the spreadsheet file Carpeting cost from the CD.


2 Insert a row over the headings and enter the heading Designer Janet Burgess
Budget.
3 Enter the formula to calculate the area of each carpet by the square metre.
4 Enter the formula to calculate the cost of carpet for each room.
5 Enter the formula to calculate the total area of carpeting Janet has to purchase in
all her houses combined. Then calculate the cost.
6 Two rows below the table, enter the label Percentage discount.
7 Enter the formula to calculate the percentage discount if Janet is given an 8%
discount on the carpet.
8 Calculate the actual amount Janet pays for the carpet at an 8% discount.
9 Calculate how much Janet has saved.
10 Save the worksheet as Cost of Carpeting.

2 Bold and centre the headings.
3 Calculate the kilo-wattage of each appliance.
4 Calculate the kilo-watt usage per month by multiplying the kilo-wattage of each
appliance by the amount of usage per week.
5 Calculate the estimated cost if fifty (50) units cost $0.50.
6 Calculate the total electricity bill for the month.
7 Save the spreadsheet as Electricity Bill2.

1 Enter the following data and create a column chart.

1 Retrieve the spreadsheet Bounce.


2 Enter the formula to select the ball with the highest bounce.
3 Enter the formula to select the ball with the lowest bounce.
4 Create a chart to display the bounce height of the balls and insert it into the
spreadsheet.
5 Find a picture of a ball to insert from a suitable source.
6 Save the spreadsheet as Bounce Height
Activity 8

1 Retrieve the spreadsheet Titration.


2 Calculate the volume used by subtracting the initial reading from the final reading.
3 Ignoring the rough reading, calculate the total volume of sodium hydroxide used.
4 Ignoring the rough reading, calculate the total volume of HCl used.
5 Ignoring the rough reading, calculate the average volume used.
6 Save the document as Acid-base Titration.

Activity 9

1 Retrieve the file Melting Point.


2 Change the temperature value of 100 to 78.
3 Create a line graph to display the information.
4 Use the Max formula to determine the melting point of the substance.
5 Centre the data.
6 Save the spreadsheet as Naphthalene Melting Point.

Activity 10

1 Retrieve the file Tiling.


2 Enter the formula to calculate the area to be tiled of the room.
3 Enter the formula to calculate the area of each tile.
4 Enter the formulae to calculate the number of tiles needed to tile each room.
5 Insert a row above that of Kitchen and enter the following data.

Room: Study
Dimension: 2550*2550 cm
Tile Area: 40*40 cm
Cost Per Tile: $19.95

6 Enter the formulae to calculate the room area, area of tile, and number of tiles
needed for this room.
7 Calculate the cost of tiling the rooms.
8 Calculate the total area tiled in the house.
9 Calculate the total cost of tiling the house.
10 Bold the headings.
11 Change the font of the heading Tiling Estimates for Robert Lewis to one of your
choice.
12 Centre all headings.
13 Save the spreadsheet as Tiling Estimate.
