ControlplaneENNIinterface
Overview
ThebasicfunctionsofacontrolplaneforanAutomaticallySwitchedOpticalNetwork(ASON)aresignalingandrouting.
Signalingisusedtoestablish,maintain,andteardownendtoendconnections.Routingisusedtoselectthemostappropriate
pathbetweenandwithinnetworkdomains.Thedatacommunicationsnetworkfortransferringthiscontrolplaneinformation
(signalingandroutingmessages)iscalledSignalingCommunicationsNetwork(SCN).
Inthisrelease,theAlcatelLucent1665DMXsupportsthecontrolplaneENNIlogicalinterfaceoverinterdomainlinksfor
singlenodeaccessdomainconfiguration.ThesignalingprotocolisRSVPTEandroutingprotocolisOSPFTE,basedonOIF
specifications.

ENNIFunctions
AnexampleofacontrolplanenetworkwithAlcatelLucent1665DMXENNIconnectingtoanINNIcapablecoreisshown
below.InthisexampleAlcatelLucent1665DMXNEsserveasedgenodesandAlcatelLucent1675LambdaUniteMSSNEs,or
othervendorsNEs,serveascorenodes.ThecoredomainnodessupportINNIwithinthedomainandENNIbetweenthe
domains.

ThetransporttopologyisSONETlinearfortheENNI,andmeshfortheINNI.SONETlineartopologysupportsunprotected
andline1+1protectionschemes.Themeshtopologysupportscontrolplanebasedprotectionschemesincluding1+1path
(network)protection,dynamicreroute,andunprotected.
TheprimaryfunctionofferedbysuchanetworkistheabilitytocreateanddeleteendtoendDS3,OCn,andEthernetPrivate
Lineservicesbetweenaningressandanegressclientfacingedgeport.TheconnectionsetupandreleaseareinvokedbyTL1
commandssenttothesourceedgenodefromOS,andcarriedoutbythecontrolplane(ENNIandINNI).Theconnectioncan
beeitherunidirectionalorbidirectional.ThesignalratesforconnectionsarerestrictedtoSTS1,STS3c,STS12c,STS48c,
andSTS192c.
InAlcatelLucent1665DMX,anopticalportisconfiguredasTRADITIONAL,EDGEorENNI,withTRADITIONALasthedefault.
TheTRADITIONALportsareoutsideofthecontrolplanetopology.ThesetupofcrossconnectsassociatedwithTRADITIONAL
portsismanagedasitwasprevioustotheintroductionofENNIonAlcatelLucent1665DMX.Thesetupofcrossconnects
associatedwithENNIportsiscontrolledbytheENNIcontrolplane.TheEDGEportsfunctionasadd/dropportsoftheendto
endcontrolplaneconnections.Asubnetworkpoint(timeslot)inanEDGEportcanbeusedforeitherendtoendcontrol
planeconnectionsortraditionalconnections.
