Calculus II - Surface Area

The document discusses calculating the surface area of solids of revolution. It describes rotating a continuous function f(x) defined over an interval [a,b] about the x-axis to form a solid. To derive the surface area formula, the interval is divided into subintervals of equal width Δx, and the function is approximated as linear on each subinterval. Approximating the function with line segments allows calculating the lateral area of each piece to sum for the total surface area.
