Course Description
The Introduction to CIMPLICITY - Online course is a
entry-level course focusing on multiple aspects of
project configuration. This course will guide students
through the rudiments of building and modifying a
CIMPLICITY HMI/SCADA application.
It is a legacy course based on CIMPLICITY Plant Edition
(v.6.1). The entire course is delivered online directly to
your web browser.
Who Should Attend?
This course is designed for those who design, develop and deploy CIMPLICITY HMI/SCADA Systems.
Are There Any Prerequisites?
Participants should have a working knowledge of Internet Explorer, and Windows operating systems. All
participants also need an account at the GE Intelligent Platforms training portal EDGE.
What Tasks Will Be Taught in This Online Course?
Upon completion of this Course, the student will be able to:
Create and configure a new Project including the Point Database of the project.
Configure graphic screens.
Create Events and Actions using the Basic Control Engine, including simple scripts using a VB compliant language.
Create Database Logging tables.
Create and modify Trend Charts and Alarm Viewers.
Use a variety of CIMPLICITY System Utilities and Operating System administrative options to troubleshoot project
or system process faults.
Understand architecture communication between CIMPLICITY Servers and Viewers.

Course Agenda
Module 1 Project Configuration
Learn the basic features and design of the CIMPLICITY software. Create a new project and configure the
devices, protocols, ports, resources, points, alarms classes, strings and alarms. Access the Point Control Panel
and create a new Point Control Panel.
The estimated time to complete this module is 3.5 hours.
Module 2 Graphics
Create and configure a graphic screen. Adding text and shape objects to the graphic screen, adding fill
animations to shape objects, adding, modifying and linking of SmartObjects, configuring execution
conditions, creating text buttons with events and actions, creating visibility links, creating font animation and
learning to manage graphic screens.
The estimated time to complete this module is 3 hours.
Module 3 Basic Control Engine
Create events and actions, display and trigger events and actions in the BCEUI, and configure a simple script
using wizards in the Script Editor.
The estimated time to complete this module is 1.5 hours.
Module 4 Database Logging
Create new tables within the Database Logger, configure logging and maintenance options within the tables,
add points to the new tables and view the historical data through Excel reports.
The estimated time to complete this module is 1 hour.
Module 5 Trending
Execute a Quick Trend Chart, create an embedded Trend Chart in a screen and apply ActiveX trend methods
to a trend chart.
The estimated time to complete this module is 1.5 hours.
Module 6 Alarms
Create a Stand-Alone Alarm Viewer, create and configure an embedded Alarm Viewer, create filters,
associating sounds with an alarm class and activating the Alarm Sound Manager.
The estimated time to complete this module is 1 hour.
Module 7 Networking and System Administration
Configure a project for Broadcast, create a remote project to enable Enterprise Server, create text objects for
Point by Address and command line switches on screen shortcuts. Use the Import/Export Command Line
Utility, the IDTPOP Utility to view tables within the database, Process Control to display the projects
processes, open Project Status Logs to view error messages, look at the CIMPLICITY Options, use the Point
Cross Reference, access Device Quick View and PLC fault tables.
The estimated time to complete this module is 2 hours.
