Contemporary installations tend to use technology as the main concept of trying to show
the installation. A lot of contemporary installations now have access to a wider range of
technology, which has caused these installations to be more unique and successful. The
three installations above are using modern technology, as a unique way of presenting their
work, and making it stand out. They are using flat screen TVs as a common device, which
can be presented on multiple screens, to stretch out the overall recording like the image
above. This use can allowed the audience to see the recording through multiple different
perspectives, which can present meaning into what is actually going on, and show various
sides of the installation.

Vito Acconci
He uses a variety of different techniques that allowed him to present the video in the best
possible way. He used live feed and CCTV camera, which allowed the video to be presented
in a unique way, as it is presented in an unusual format with the video happening in front of
their eyes at that time. This technique allows the audience to feel as if they are actually
interactive with the video. He uses a variety of different techniques that allowed him to
present the video in the best possible way, during the year of 1974. He used live feed and
CCTV camera, which allowed the video to be presented in a unique way, as it is shown in an
unusual format with the video happening in front of their eyes at that time. This artist has
used technology like, cameras and monitor screens as modern way to present their work.
This artists uses technology in his video installation, as he uses CCTV cameras as a way to
present his video in a common modern device such as flat screens and TVs. In the video
Acconci is attempting to replace himself with the viewer, by lying on his back, with the
camera gazing down on him. He has used to space around the area to create meaning, as he
has made the screens the focus and the thing that will draw the audiences attention to.
Bill Viola
Bill Viola is contemporary video artists, whose artistic expression depends upon several
factors, including sound and image in technology. His main work focuses on the ideas
behind many fundamental human expressions such as birth, death and aspects of
consciousness. He created the Nantes Triptych, which was originally created to be shown in
a 17th century chapel. The three main aspects that he shows is video footage of birth, death
and journey between the two represented by a body floating in the water. He mainly uses a
narrative structure throughout his work, to show the progress of life which is represented
by the three separate images in the panel. Showing it is not lifes journey which is
important, but its beginning and end. The three images are accompanied by a sound track of
crying, water flow and breathing in a 30-minute loop. He creates the mood in the open
space of birth and death, which is represent through the panels and background music. The
fact he uses the narrative form in this installation, almost shows a story of events that
happened in his life, from the very begging of life with him, to the death of his mother,
which allows the installation to have meaning for the audience.
