OVERVIEW
Meezan Bank, Pakistans first and largest Islamic bank, is a publicly listed
company with a paid-up capital of Rs. 10 billion. It is one of the fastest growing financial
institutions in the banking sector of the country. With its Vision of establishing Islamic
banking as banking of first choice the Bank commenced operations in 2002, after being
issued the first-ever Islamic commercial banking license by the State Bank of Pakistan.
FINDINGS
Advertising issue
Avoiding to advertise on the Television has setback the Meezan banks level of awareness
about its products and offerings in the customers. In order to stop situation deteriorating,
and to leverage this effective medium advertising, bank must focus on main stream media
for advertising and communicating its various products and services, so that customers are
well educated about the latest offering that bank has to offer.
DISCUSSION
In order to fix the transaction alert issue, Meezan must increase its telecom partners, lets
say-Telenor and Ufone. Taking these both on board will not only decrease traffic load on
alone service provider Mobilink but will also bring new technology and ways to better
service customers.
DISCUSSION
Now a day ATMs are used more than ever, ATM Machines have become the customer
interface for banks, customer judge the standard of banking services through high end ATM
machines proper working machines along with atmosphere within ATM cabin. Secondly, not
only bank s own customer but account holders of other banks also use the banks ATM
Machines, and out of order or slow ATM machines leaves bad impression on current and
potential customers
DISCUSSION
Branding is as necessary and as important as product and services, any inconsistence in log
or theme color creates confusion in the minds of customers is not regarded by customers.
Meezan bank must ensure it has same variance/quality of color throughout their branding
tools to better leverage the color them and create strong affiliation with corporate logo
and color theme.
RECOMMENDATIONS
Meezan bank should opt to advertise on main stream media that is television and print
media along with utilization of social media. Utilizing main stream media will better help
to communicate to its target market in more convincing and effective way. Heavy usage
and spending on mainstream media by its rival banks proves its effectiveness and
necessity.
Highly rely on their R&D intelligence to understand the psychology of its target market
and come up with much desired offering for the target market.
Should be flexible and adoptable in IT systems and utilize the updated and latest
technology to service its customers. Modern ways must be explored to suit the current
needs of customers.
RECOMMENDATIONS (CONTD)
Meezan Bank must create marketing alliances and opt for cobranding with famous
business to help grow both. Offer discounts on the purchase of allied brands.
Meezan bank is only focusing on the Urban areas it must penetrate the sub urban and
rural areas of Pakistan to expand the business and increase their network
CONCLUSION
Meezan bank has the first mover advantage in Islamic banking in Pakistan, it has leverage the
benefit, has the highest base of customers than any Islamic bank in Pakistan, there is much
to achieve for the bank, if all the four highlighted problems in the case study are overcome
comprehensively, their solution would place bank in much better position to increase the
customer satisfaction level, promptly serve them and better compete in the banking
industry for greater share of its customers.
