Ecx4236 Cat 2013

This document contains a 3 question exam for a microprocessors and interfacing course. Question 1 asks students to (i) calculate the analog output of a DAC for an input code of 00000001 and (ii) calculate the digital input value for an output of 625 mV. Question 2 asks students to (i) draw a block diagram interfacing an ADC to a microcontroller using the DAC to set the ADC reference voltage, (ii) draw a flowchart to measure an analog value using the ADC with help from the DAC, and (iii) write an 8051 microcontroller assembly language program for the setup.

Continuous Assessment Test

Time Allowed: 1 hours OPEN BOOK TEST

Date: 28 April 2014 Time: 09.00-10.15 Hrs

Answer all questions. State your assumptions (if any) clearly.

The 8-bit R/2R digital-to-analog (DAC) converter shown in Figure 1 in page 2 has a
reference of 10 volts.

[Q1]

(i) Find out the analog output for the input code 00000001. [15 Marks]

(ii) Find out the digital input value for the output 625 mV. [15 Marks]

[Q2]

In a certain experiment you are required to interface an analog-to-digital (ADC)

converter to 8051 microcontroller using the above DAC (Figure 1) for setting the
reference voltage 625 mV of the ADC.

(i) Draw a block diagram to show your configuration. [30 Marks]

(ii) Draw a flowchart to measure analog value using ADC with help of the
DAC.
[20 Marks]

(iii) Write the 8051 microcontroller assembly language program (ALP) for
the above setup.
