The document outlines various operating limits that must be followed during engine testing, including limits for starters, temperatures, vibrations, and idle speeds.

The starter limits specify a maximum continuous operation of 5 minutes, with 5 minutes of cooling required after. After two consecutive 5 minute cycles, 15 minutes of cooling is needed before repeating. If start attempts exceed 30 minutes total, the starter must cool for 30 minutes.

Temperature limits are provided for engine control unit (maximum 213°F), exhaust gas temperature (maximum 212°F for cooling), and general temperature limits for different engine operating regions as shown in Figure 2.

6. Procedure
FO

A. General
The limits in this procedure are applicable for all engine tests. The operator must know all of
these limits before engine operation.
Note: You can use equivalent alternatives for standard tools, equipment and consumable
IN

materials.

B. Limits
(1) Starter limits:

(a) The starter duty cycle permits maximum continuous operation for 5 minutes.
R

(b) The starter must then be cooled for a minimum of 5 minutes.

(c) After two consecutive 5 minute duty cycles, wait 15 minutes to let the starter cool
FO

before the 5 minute duty cycle is repeated.

(d) If the attempted start time is less than 2 minutes, then a 60 second rest interval is
necessary between attempted starts.

(e) After three consecutive attempted starts of less than 2 minutes, the starter must be
cooled for 15 minutes before additional star cycles are attempted.
Applicability: All LEAP-1A-72-00-00-01A-340C-C

LEAP-1A-72-00-00-01A-340C-C

(f) Do not engage the starter when the core speed is more than 20 percent.

(2) Engine start time:

(a) Time to light-off

N
Remarks: The Full authority Digital Engine Control (FADEC) will
automatically motor the engine between 20% and 30% N2 for up
to 55 seconds in order to mitigate bowed rotors. After completion
of bowed rotor motoring, fuel will be introduced. Light-off should

T IO
occur in 2 - 3 seconds after fuel is introduced. If light-off does not
occur within 15 seconds, place fuel shut-off lever to OFF, continue
to motor engine with starter for 30 seconds, then de-energize
starter. Refer to: LEAP-1A-72-00-00-01A-320B-C
printed from DVD LEAP CFM-TP-610-A-S1000D 2016-10-01 - [printed on 2017-01-25]

(b) Start to minimum idle

Requirements: The engine must start and accelerate to minimum idle minus the
MA
calculated bowed rotor time in a standardized time not greater
than the times shown below:
(a) 75 seconds when -4 F (-20 C) < Tamb < 104 F (40 C)
(b) 105 seconds when Tamb >104 F (40 C) or -40 F (-40 C) <
Tamb < (-4 F) (-20 C)
Remarks: Time to idle must be measured from the initial rotation of the HP
rotor to the time where the minimum of the minimum idle speed is
R
reached. Bowed rotor motoring time must be calculated as time
between when the HP rotor reaches 20 percent N2 until the fuel
introduced and igniters are commanded on. The time start to be
considered occurs when SAV opens
FO

(3) Ignition systems:

(a) Duty cycle

Requirements: Continuous use is permitted

IN

Remarks: Make a minimum of one start on each system during the test
schedule. The maximum ignition unit environmental temperature
must not be more than 225 F (107 C) with continuous ignition

(4) Rotors do not turn:

(a) Fan (N1):

R

Core engine operation with fan rotor or low pressure turbine (LPT) rotor seized
FO

Requirements: Maximum permitted core engine speed is the maximum motoring

speed
Remarks: Do not operate the engine without an N1 rotation indication. Set
the master lever to OFF and the mode selector to NORMAL. Do
not try to start the engine. Do troubleshooting to find the cause

Applicability: All LEAP-1A-72-00-00-01A-340C-C

(b) Core (N2):

Core seized because of seal or shroud interference, or starter shaft is sheared

Remarks: Do not try to start the engine until core rotor turns freely. If engine
is cold, troubleshoot starter

N
(5) Lubrication system:
CAUTION: SHUT DOWN THE ENGINE IF THERE IS ANY CHANGE

T IO
OF 5 PSI (34 KPA) DURING STEADY-STATE OPERATION.
DO TROUBLESHOOTING TO FIND THE CAUSE. ENGINE
DAMAGE CAN OCCUR IF THE ENGINE IS OPERATED
WITH THIS DEFECT.

(a) Oil Pressure
Note: The corrected oil pressure equals the engine inlet oil pressure minus
MA
the sump internal (AGB internal) pressure (delta P given by FADEC
parameter 1/4 ARINC label 317) plus the oil correction factor. Table 1 and
Figure 1.

Note: The oil correction factors are derived from the physical core speed
(ARINC label 344) and the selected engine oil temperature (ARINC label
316).
