Transformer Testing DYn11

This document discusses testing the vector group of a DYn11 distribution transformer. It provides details on: 1) Testing involves shorting the primary winding and applying a 3-phase supply to check voltages meet conditions for the DYn11 vector group. 2) The three conditions checked are: VRY = VRn + VYn, VBb < VBy, and VRb = VRy. Numerical examples are given to demonstrate satisfying the first two conditions. 3) Verifying the vector group is important to ensure the transformer can operate correctly in parallel with other DYn11 transformers.

Transformer Testing

Vector Group Testing

We do this testing to check that vector group of transformers in parallel operation must be identical.

Delta Connection

In star Connection;

In Delta Connection

= 3

Most of the distribution sides Transformers are Delta-Star Connected

We need to Test DYn11 Transformer

a) Disconnect transformer from any power supply side

b) Remove any ground from Transformer

c) Short Red phase(R) or A phase or U phase of Primary winding via bushings to red phase(r) or a
phase or u phase

d) We need to connect 3 phase generator AC supply to the primary side of Transformer

5

e) Use Voltmeter to check voltages at different point, in DYn11, three condition need to be check,
if conditions satisfied then vector group is correct as per nameplate data.

f) Conditions are

Condition Simulations:

= +

Here you can see,

= 293.4

= 42.29

= 251.2( )

1st condition satisfied

7

<

= 293.4

= 420.4

2nd condition satisfied

If these three conditions fulfilled, then transformer vector group is ok as per nameplate data and fit to
work with any DYn11 transformer in parallel.
