1. Jack read a book. + 2. The phone rang. = OR
The phone rang while Jack was reading a book.
A time and an action
When the second action happened, the first action was already happening
The action that started first Past Continuous The action that started second Past Simple.
Ex. a) Two actions
Ex. b) A time and an action
Choose a time and day
(eg: 7PM on Saturday)
and ask three students :
What were you doing at _____(time) on _____(day)

Ex. c) Two actions writing


Write 3 sentences about yourself
like this:

Last Friday, I was going home on the train when I saw an old friend.

__________(Time/Day),
_______________(Past Continuous), when ______________(Past Simple)

4) Continue the story!


Show the sentences that you have written to a classmate and ask them to choose one.
