COUNTABLE NOUS
Nouns you can count
you can use a / an in front of countable nouns.
Nouns that have a plural form.

UNCOUNTABLE NOUNS
Nouns you cant count
Normally, you cant use a / an in front of uncountable nouns
Nouns that normally dont have a plural form

We can make uncountable nouns countable to express


quantity. We add a unit or a quantity with OF
E.g. a bar of chocolate

HOW MUCH? / HOW MANY?

How much + uncountable noun


E.g. How much ham?

How many + countable noun


E.g.: How many rashers and sausages

QUANTIFIERS CONTAINERS AND QUANTITIES

A quantifier, as its name implies, expresses quantity.


Quantifiers can be a single word or a phrase and are used
with nouns. They can be used with either a countable or an
uncountable noun to express amount or quantity.

some + plural nouns or uncountable singular forms.


( has an affirmative meaning)

any + plural nouns or uncountable singular forms. ( is


used with negative sentences and questions.

much + plural nouns

a lot of + uncountable or plural nouns( is more usual


in affirmative sentences)

a little + singular uncountable nouns ( has a positive


meaning)
a few + plurals ( has a positive meaning.) no + zero quantity ( no = not any)
