GRYFFE HIGH SCHOOL

PHYSICAL EDUCATION DEPARTMENT RULES

1. Pupils must wear standard PE Kit during class time. This includes white t-shirt with school shield,
black, grey OR navy bottoms (tracksuit trousers or shorts of an appropriate length covering half the
upper leg), change of socks and training shoes. Change of footwear must be clean and tight fitting with
laces tied securely. Tracksuits/waterproofs may be worn outside. Combat trousers and leggings must not
be worn.

2. LONG HAIR SHOULD BE TIED BACK SECURELY BEFORE LEAVING THE CHANGING
ROOMS AND SHOULD REMAIN TIED BACK THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE LESSON.

3. All body jewellery must be removed before leaving the changing room. Any jewlerry which cannot
be removed must be covered with a plaster provided by the pupil. NO PUPILS ARE EXEPEMT
FROM PARTICIPATING IN PE BECAUSE OF JEWELLERY. Pupils will be responsible for the
safekeeping of their own jewellery.

4. At the start of the lesson valuables should be deposited in class teachers valuables box and uplifted,
in person, at the end of the period. ONLY PHONES, IPODS, PURSES, WALLETS AND WATCHES
WILL BE ACCEPTED.

5. All pupils must bring FULL PE KIT AT ALL TIMES. If unable to take part fully in lessons, pupils
should also bring a letter requesting non-participation in an activity. Letters must be signed and dated by
a parent/carer with an explanation for the non-participation and a likely timescale for return to full
participation. Pupils should change into kit as normal and take this letter to class teacher once changed.

6. Pupils who forget PE Kit should report immediately to the PE Base to collect spare kit and have name
recorded by class teacher. Pupils with PE Kit which is non standard must report to PE Base to collect
standard kit for borrowing.

7. Pupils must be PUNCTUAL at all times whether arriving at, changing or leaving the department.
Pupils should be changed and into working area no later than 8 minutes after the bell to start the period to
register for class.

8. EATING OR CHEWING GUM IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN. This is extremely dangerous in PE


activities.

9. Pupils MUST NOT leave the PE Department after class wearing any part of their PE Kit.

10. At the end of the period classes should leave the department by the back door. No pupils should leave
the Department before the bell. S5/S6 pupils have permission to leave the department via the corridor.

11. Pupils who do not adhere to the PE Department Rules will be punished accordingly. Level of
punishment will depend on severity of reason with punishments including:

Verbal Warnings
Detentions with demerit recorded
Text home to parent/carer
Detentions with Official Exercises
Detentions with Official Exercises and referral to Faculty Head
12. Punishment exercises must be returned to the appropriate teacher before 8.50 am on the following
school day. Failure to follow this will result in increased punishment.
