Digital Learning Plan Update, January 2017
Agenda - May 2 Business Meeting
Description: The above artifacts are a power point presentation from a January Board meeting which provided an
update to the digital learning plan and an agenda from the most recent Business meeting on May 2, 2017 where they
discussed changes to the Physical and Nutritional Health policy.
Reflection:
The introduction of 1:1 iPads and technology was a significant change over the past two years for WCPS, not just
for teachers but for staffing, infrastructure, and budgeting. While there were many that were in favor of the added
technology, not all stakeholders were in favor of the new plan. The update, presented at the January 17th business
meeting, details how the infrastructure has been upgraded, and changes that are still needed, how staffing has
changed, and how the new plan has positively affected student learning at WCPS. The update also shared next steps
in the plan included blended learning opportunities for high school students, upgraded technology for teachers, and
classes offered solely online. The Digital learning plan will continue to be a topic of discussion at future Board
meetings as we learn to adapt to and best incorporate this technology into our teaching and learning.
The second item was a review of the Wellness policy after a request from the USDA and MSDE required that school
districts revisit policies to encourage more community and and family participation. During this particular meeting
they re-defined school day and Smart Snacks. These re-written terms and the newly adopted policy was then
sent out to staff. This agenda item will not have as much impact on day-to-day operations or the larger picture as the
Digital Learning plan, but was a necessary item to discuss because it is a written policy and must be revisited
occasionally.
