Dtask 4

The document describes a classroom observation task where the observer notes 5 routines used in the classroom, including when and where each is used and its purpose. One routine involves reminding students of classroom rules at the start of class to encourage discipline. Another routine uses morning songs to engage students before lessons. A third routine calls student groups by name to line up, encouraging discipline. Routines help make lessons more effective for young students by providing structure and expectations.

Observation Task 4

Name: Jawaher Alkaabi

Course: Practicum 2b - EDU 2803
Instructor Name: Antoinette Wiseman
Observation Task 4

Activity One: Observing Classroom Routines and Procedures

Though there are many routines and procedures all over the school such as
returning from assembly or walking in the hallways, this task focuses on what
happens inside of your classroom only.
During the first week of your teaching practice observe your MST and her/his
classroom. Make a note of five (5) routines that you see her/him use every
day inside of the classroom. Fill in the table below to describe EACH routine;
when and where it is used; and what is the aim of the routine or the student
behavior that it hopes to achieve.

After the Task - Reflection
Reflect on the routine of the classroom and how it is was effective
with the students? Explain how this routine will affect student
learning in a KG class.

Each classroom should have a routine, routines is what make the lesson
affective. Without routine the students will feel lost. Imagine that you start a
lesson without having an introduction like reminding the students of the rules
or encouraging them by playing a song, imagine if you start the lesson by
saying when the weather outside is hot and sunny we called it summer it
makes no sense for a 3-6 years old child, but rather you would say today
were going to learn about the four seasons and the weather, we have
summer, spring, autumn & winter. In summer we feel hot, etc. and so on.
Rules are the most important thing you should include in your classroom,
because without having rules it would be difficult to manage students
behavior and it would be easier if you have a reward system with the rules, you
can use it effectively by telling the students if you follow the rules, I will reward
you and by the end of the week I will bring gifts for students who follows my
rules. Routine make starting a lesson much easier for the teacher and her/his
students.

Activity Two: Planning for/Developing Routines and

Procedures
Plan the routines for one of your classes. The activity expects that you will
teach the class. It may be a class that you teach for an observation by your
MST/MCT or just a practice class that you teach with the permission of your
MST. The lesson can be incorporated as one of your formal observations if
your MST/MCT decides. In order to complete the activity you are required
(whether the lesson is one of your formal observations or not) to fill in and
submit the planning sheet below.

After the Task - Reflection

Choose 3 best practices you observed during your time in school.
Reflect on these and consider why you could implement these in a
UAE KG classroom in the future. Explain how these practices will
affect student learning in a KG class.

During my teaching practice they were a lot of interesting and good

practices, three of the best practices that I observed during my TP are; rules,
reward system and the little teacher. I would like to implement these three in
my classroom in the future. I choose rules because its the best easier and

affective way to manage students behavior, by having rules students will be

able to know some of the things that they are not allowed or allowed to do.
The reward system is a good way to encourage students good behavior, if a
student did something right or were good during the class I would reward
him/her which will make other students jealous, do well during the rest of the
classes and work hard to be like this student, because they want to be
rewarded. I would use the little teacher strategy to help students improve
and develop their self-confidence and their self-esteem, its important for a
child to have confident in him/herself because now a days children have less
confidence on themselves which make dealing with others and the world
surrounding them difficult, and having confident is nothing that you can gain
that fast, thats why making them develop this from a younger age is better,
not only on being the little teacher I would also look for more things to
develop their confident like participating on schools activities, assembly and
etc.
