Altirra Keyboard Reference

This document provides mappings for keyboard keys between an Atari keyboard and a modern host keyboard in the Altirra emulator. It maps less common Atari keys like Start, Select, and Option to function keys. It also maps host keys to emulator functions like toggling full screen, stepping through code, and copying frames. The Options menu can configure arrow key handling and using Alt allows arrow keys to issue input when mapped to controllers.

Keyboard mapping

Atari Keys
When possible, Atari keys are mapped to the host keys that generate the same characters. For instance,
Shift+2 on a US English keyboard layout generates an @ key press in the emulated system, even
though Shift+2 generates a double quote (") on the Atari keyboard. Here are the less obvious mappings:

Atari key Host key

Start F2
Select F3
Option F4
System Reset (Warm Reset) F5
Power (Cold Reset) Shift+F5
Help F6
Break Pause
Shift+< (Clear) Home
Shift+> (Insert Line) Shift+Insert
Ctrl+> (Insert Character) Insert
Shift+Backspace (Delete Line) Shift+Delete
Ctrl+Backspace (Delete Character) Delete
Fuji / Invert End or `
Ctrl+Esc Ctrl+\
Ctrl+Shift+Esc Ctrl+Shift+\
Ctrl+- Up Arrow*
Ctrl+= Down Arrow*
Ctrl++ Left Arrow*
Ctrl+* Right Arrow*

The Options / Keyboard... dialog allows configuration of the arrow key handling and can be set to
either require or not require use of the Ctrl modifier key. Also, holding the Alt key will allow the
arrow keys on the host to issue keyboard input even if those keys are already mapped to an input
controller.

Host Keys
These are the mappings from host keys to emulator functions:

Alt+Shift+V Paste text

Ctrl+Shift+\ Ctrl+Shift+Esc
Alt+Enter Toggle full-screen mode
