Teacher Materials/Resources: Book: Today I Feel Silly, White paper, plate, pen, paint, roller,
pencil, scissors
Student Materials/Resources: Nothing
Pre-Assessment: I created the checklist at the bottom and used it on a writing piece about how
they feel today. Students mainly used the emotion happy when describing how they felt in their
writing. We also noticed that students were continually forgetting their ending marks and capital
letters.
Lesson Procedure and Activities:
Introduction:
Kindergarteners, today we are going to create a feelings print about how you feel today.
First I am going to read the story Today I Feel Silly to learn about all of the different
emotions you can feel.
Read story.
Demonstrate how to create the print. Cut foam plate in circle, use pen to draw face, put
paint in tray, roll paint onto roller, put paint on plate, flip plate onto white paper, write
sentence.
Now you are going to have your own turn to create a feelings print. You can make it
whatever shape you want, whatever emotion you are feeling, and whatever color you feel
describes your emotion. At the very end I want you to write a sentence about why you
picked that emotion to describe how you feel today.
Activities:
Perform activity with students.
Closure:
Have three students share their prints and assess sentences on checklist.
Differentiation: The students will work on their print and their sentence on their own pace.
Formative Assessment/Evaluation: I will use this checklist after the students complete their
feelings print.
