Assignment On Image Processing - 2

The document provides instructions for Assignment-1 in a Principles of Image Processing (PRIP) course. It contains 10 questions covering topics such as determining the diameter of an object in an image, analyzing periodicity of 2D signals, identifying linear and shift-invariant systems, distinguishing between raster and vector images, components of an image processing workstation, image file formats, properties of orthogonal matrices, eigenvectors and eigenvalues, basis for transforms, and Hermitian matrices. Students are instructed to answer all questions with equal importance, submit a handwritten report stapled in a channel file by February 10th 2017 noon, and include their ID, name, class, and roll number on the front page.

ASSIGNMENT-1(PRIP)

(Maximum Marks: 10)

1. A digital camera captures a 200 X 200 pixel image of a black-and-white football on a gray
background. The image was scanned at 100 dpi. The ball is 30cm in diameter and is 150cm
away from the camera. The camera has a field of 90 degrees horizontally and vertically.
What is the diameter of the ball in pixels?

2. Determine whether the following 2D signal is periodic or not:

x ( n 1, n 2 )=cos
3(( ) ( ) )
n 1+
6
n2

3. For each of the following systems, determine whether or not the system is (a) linear, or (b)
shift-invariant:
(i) y ( n1, n 2 )=x ( n 1,n 2 ) +5
(ii) y ( n1, n 2 )=x (n1,n 2 )

4. Distinguish between raster image and vector image.

5. Write in detail about the various components of an image processing workstation.

6. Write in detail about the various file formats used to store digital images.

7. Show that the Matrix A is orthogonal:

( )
1 2 2
A= 2 1 2
2 2 1

8. Find the eigen value and eigen vector of the following matrix C:

C= (34 12)
9. Explain in detail basis for a transform.

10. Explain Hermitian Matrix with a suitable example.

Instructions for submission of report:

1 Attempt all questions with equal importance.
2 The report should be prepared using A4 size paper, properly stapled, and submitted
using a channel file.
3 Solutions should be hand written and presented in the same order as the questions.
4 Last date and time for submission of report is 10th February, 2017, 12:00 noon at Room
no. 306 (AIM & ACT).
5 The front page of the report must contain the following: Banasthali ID, Name, Class
[B.Tech.(CS/IT) 8th Semester], and Roll No. of the student.
