Objectives

3. Discuss computer crime
4. Discuss the role of technology on everyday life.

Introduction

Digital technology has generally improved on our traditional ways of doing things.

In some cases, however, it has created problems for us.


We could say that digital technology use, has advantages (positive impact) and disadvantaged or
drawbacks (negative impact)

In this lesson, I start by describing the internet and how it works.


I then follow up with a discussion on computer crime
I conclude with the role of technology on everyday life

(1) The Internet

The internet is an international network of computers linked up to exchange information.

The Internet can be said as the collection of local, regional, and national computer networks that
are linked together to exchange data and distribute processing tasks.

The Internet evolved from an experiment with four computers into a vast information network
that connects millions of microcomputers, minicomputers, mainframes, and supercomputers.

The internet uses high speed data lines, called backbones to carry data. Smaller networks
connect to the backbone, enabling any user on any network to exchange data with any other user.

Most importantly, the internet is not really about computers, it is about people, communication
and sharing knowledge.
A large part of the internet is the World Wide Web www. This is made up of web sites that
have one or more web pages.

Chat and Instant Messaging Systems
