Google+ to communicate with other people. A social network can include blogs and ways to share
text and ideas, groups, private messaging, a chat facility and file- or photo-sharing functions. Social
Networking sites have always opened the gates of debates among users and non users. Are Social
Networking sites Boon or Bane?
Need of social networking sites:
Social networking is fundamentally shifting the way we interact, communicate, organize, form
opinions, and even shop. Its blurring boundaries, increasing transparency and creating uidity in
everything we do. Growing rapidly, companies, large and small, can no longer ignore or try to block
social networking in their environment. The reality is you need to go where your target audiences are
and people are more likely to participate in a social media forum than any other venue. Customers,
partners, and employees, alike expect to engage with you via social media its a way for you to stay
connected, gather feedback, recruit, and collaborate. As a result, you need to support social media in
your environment to enable the innovation, increased productivity, and accelerated growth that will
drive your business.

Some examples of popular social networking sites:

Facebook: Facebook is a social networking site that allows people to communicate with their friends
and exchange information. In May 2007 Facebook launched the Facebook Platform which provides a
framework for developers to create applications.
social networking sites are good for society or just waste of time

MySpace: MySpace is a social networking site offering an interactive, user-submitted network of

friends, personal profiles, blogs and groups, commonly used for sharing photos, music and videos

including sharing brief information with users and providing support for ones peers.
G+ OR Google+ : Here while describing about social networking sites we can not miss BIG G
Google+ , Although It has not been able to create proper niche in social sites uptill now but business
class is pushing it just to help its pages to get upper ranking in google search , Although G+ ,
according to me is better in terms of features than all other networking sites but then even shifting
from facebook , twitter to G+ for normal consumer will take lot of time and we will have to see how
long it takes.
Merits of social networking sites

Finding Good People: Social Networking sites like LinkedIn are a great resource for
business owners to find new talent or even partners for a new venture.

using social networking sites. Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google+ and many others are
great forums for you to talk about your business, your services and even exhibit your industry
expertise.

opportunity to advertise to a very specific demographic for very little money. So you can
advertise to exactly the customer that you want to attract and save money versus other forms
of advertising.

target customers at a time, so it can be used to promote business, to advertise for our

Demerits of social networking sites

Privacy: Nowadays, the social-networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter are open for
anyone who wants to participate. On social networking sites users
express very powerful concerns about privacy of their personal information, but do not
care about safeguarding it. Although a lot of the information individuals supply on social-
networking sites is elective, users are progressively more comfortable with displaying a great
deal of personal information online. Therefore, one of the main concerns for users who
register in these sites is privacy. So, the privacy is one of the obstacles that have faced the
use of social networking in education.

Real friendship: Through social networking, person has a lot of friend but the quality and
integrity of these friendships is not always true. On the other hand, data on these social-
networking sites for a person is not always 100% honest and reliable, and they do not verify
personal details (age, location, etc.) of their members. While sites provide an opportunity for
individuals to present a positive and accurate self-image, there is an equal potential to abuse
this openness. So, having many friends through social networking sites is likely to be more
harmful than good.

Time consumption: The amount of time spent by individuals with each other online has
risen to greater extent. This has effect on health of individuals, because spending a lot of
time browsing these social networks can affect the way the genes operate within the human
body, and weakens the immune and hormone levels. In addition, it is also has an impact on
mental health. Moreover, the use of social networking in the education can cause lack of
motivation towards learning and can be boring sitting in front of computer for a long time.

More Points

Through social networking one can increase own language and communication skill. Being a
member of a social network, he become a part of a world community.

Social networking sites would be very much useful for studies if used efficiently.

Social networking sites have already conquered the minds of not only young people but also
adult people all over the world. It can offer a large scale of interactivity and connectivity
without boundaries of distance. It can also evolve as a social media which shares and deals
the things from bedroom to parliament. It can become the best media for information
transferring media.

SURVEY REPORT:

usefullness of social networking sites

CONCLUSION: Social network has made the life of people more easy and interesting, its negative
impact has created insecurity among them. Everything has some good effects and some bad effects
but it fully depends on individual how to utilize good effect and how to convert bad effects into good
effects. At last I would like to conclude SOCIAL MEDIA SHOULD IMPROVE YOUR LIFE, NOT
BECOME YOUR LIFE!.
It is just social networking sites which offers people to express views FREE of any boundaries and
has made every one Journalist.

My conclusion is that Whole social networks are good and it should be used with intelligence

When it comes to social networking in the workplace, there is no one-size-fits-all approach. The
benefits of social networking platforms vary based on platform type, features and the company itself.

Social networking platforms may allow organizations to improve communication and productivity by
disseminating information among different groups of employees in a more efficient manner. While it is
not meant to be all-inclusive, the list below outlines some of the possible advantages and
disadvantages of social media use by workplaces.

Possible advantages:

Facilitates open communication, leading to enhanced information discovery and delivery.

Allows employees to discuss ideas, post news, ask questions and share links.

Provides an opportunity to widen business contacts.

Targets a wide audience, making it a useful and effective recruitment tool.

Improves business reputation and client base with minimal use of advertising.
Expands market research, implements marketing campaigns, delivers communications and
directs interested people to specific web sites.

Possible disadvantages:

Opens up the possibility for hackers to commit fraud and launch spam and virus attacks.

Increases the risk of people falling prey to online scams that seem genuine, resulting in data
or identity theft.

Potentially results in negative comments from employees about the company or potential legal
consequences if employees use these sites to view objectionable, illicit or offensive material.

Potentially results in lost productivity, especially if employees are busy updating profiles, etc.

Employers do have the right to simply ban all computer activity that is not work-related, but this
approach may not yield optimal results. If employees are to be allowed access to social networking
platforms, then a comprehensive and well-defined policy should be established to prevent abuse.

A social networking use policy generally:

Defines what social networking is particular to your organization, so employees know exactly
what is meant by the term.

Establishes a clear and defined purpose for the policy.

Communicates benefits of social networking and of having a policy.

Provides a clear platform for educating employees.

Takes into consideration any legal ramifications of not following laws.

Refers to confidentiality of employer trade secrets and private or confidential

information. Talks about productivity in terms of social networking.

Provides guidance regarding social networking outside of company time/property that could be
associated with the company, employees or customers. Some employers may prohibit posting
of company information on social networking sites without explicit consent.

Provides examples of policy violations.

Outlines disciplinary measures to be taken for policy violations.

What may be the most concerning aspect of social networking platforms is that they encourage people
to share personal information. Even the most cautious and well-meaning individuals can give away
information they should not; the same applies to what is posted on company-approved social
networking platforms.

Employees may not be aware of how their actions online may compromise company security. Educate
employees as to how a simple click on a received link or a downloaded application can result in a virus
infecting their computer and the network. Advise them not to click on suspicious links and to pay
careful attention when providing personal information online. Remember that just because employees
may have an online profile, it doesnt necessarily mean they have a high level of security awareness.
Employers should also note that social media policies must not interfere with the rights of employees
under the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA) to discuss wages and working conditions with co-
workers. The National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) provides some guidance for employers on social
media policies in a May 2012 Operations Management Memo.

Top 8 Social Networking Sites Advantages and Disadvantages

special events and more by simply typing your message and posting it to your page or profile.
The Disadvantages:

Everything Is Public The nature of social networking sites is that they are well social, so
things get shared. And one small mistake can morph into a public relations nightmare.
A Red Cross employee accidently tweeted from the Red Cross Twitter account that shed found
some extra beers and was #gettingslizzerd.

Red Cross apologized an hour later with these words: Weve deleted the rogue tweet but rest
assured the Red Cross is sober and weve confiscated the keys.

Negative Publicity People really like to use social networking sites as a place to express their
frustration and disapproval of a business that they feel has wronged them in some way. Being
on the receiving end of this negative publicity can have dire consequences, so its important to
keep your customers happy and respond quickly to any issues that someone does publicize.

Time Consuming Social networking sites can suck you in and before you know it youve
spent hours looking at pictures, videos, and reading clever posts. Its important to remember
when using social networking sites for business purposes that you stay on task and only spend
time on the things that help your business. If it doesnt make dollars, it doesnt make sense
[cents]!
Social Networking Sites Advantages and Disadvantages
There are many more arguments that could be made for social networking sites advantages and
disadvantages, but we believe that the advantages of using social networking sites far outweigh
the disadvantages for any business owner (as long as you know what you are doing). The
biggest benefit is that you will attract more business, keep more clients, and ultimately make
more money!

ocial networking sites are a part of everyday life and they have
brought revolutionary changes in communication between
people. These sites provide different resources such as email
and instant messages in one place. Availability of these
resources makes the communication easy and faster. When we
look at the social impact of social networking sites, we find that
these sites have both positive and negative effects. Because of
this fact, it is necessary to analyze both advantage and
drawbacks of social networking sites.
Undoubtedly, social networking sites are advantageous to
young generation. With the help of these sites, people can
communicate and express themselves by exchanging messages
and comments. Social networking sites help in establishing
connection with people, friends and relatives. These sites can
be accessed from any part of the globe. Therefore, a person can
interact with any person from any place. For example a student
can clear his doubts with the help of a teacher. People having
different professions can make groups like doctors, lawyers,
students, poets, writers, social workers etc.
The most common disadvantage of social networking sites is
addiction. Often users of these sites get addicted to it. They
spend hours using these sites and it harms their performance
in other fields. It causes mental health problems and
sometimes it harms their body too. Sometimes users provide
their personal information to others which is insecure.
We can see clearly that social networking sites are
advantageous only if they are used wisely. Using these sites
would be helpful, if users do not spend time there
unnecessarily. Wise members never provide personal
information to strangers. Use of a tool depends on users. A
doctor can operate with a knife and a murderer can kill a
person with the same knife.
Remember and enjoy social networking!

Social Media-merits And Demerits

Social networking sites (i.e. sites like facebook and twitter) have become the integral part of everyone's
life. People belong to different age group, race, caste and creed using social media for diverse purposes.
If there is something, we are giving much more time, perhaps may be these social sites. Now that every
one is captivated by social media and using it for chatting, posting, uploading and downloading the
question arises-whether it's useful or harmful? Opinion are divided some says it's useful and handy, there
are people not agree to that and considering it detrimental and injurious for individual as well as society.
We will discuss the merits and demerits of social media in detail.

Merits of Social Media:

It is a cheap source of communication. If internet connection is available one can easily talk to the others
across the world with a very low cost.In business it may be used as the strongest medium of
advertisement. Compare to other ways of advertisement it is easy and economical.Employees of the
organization are connected to one another. They share their ideas, work and information to one another
conveniently.New ways of production, quality enhancement and even price cut back in goods and
services are possible by using social media.Students can use it for learning purposes. Academic
materials are available and may be discussed with others.Professional like doctors, lawyers and business
consultants can use social media for their interaction with clients easily.Global information is at a distance
of a click. So one can know about the day today's happening within no time. Finally social media is the
best companion, you can't feel alone once you login to sites like facebook or twitter.

Despite all these advantages there are certain disadvantages of social media. The details of which are as:

Its very time consuming. Once you enter these sites then very difficult to get rid off. People want you to be
there as long as possible.Sometimes undisclosed information about business leaked through such sites
which may affect the business reputation. If working class giving time to social media then the production
may be drastically affected because of time wastage.Students sometimes use social media as their
problem solver so they say good-bye to self work and depend upon these sites.Confidentiality remains
unsafe because hackers can attack anyone's information from any corner of the world.Lost of data is
quite possible. People inside or outside, can theft information and can use it for shocking
reputation.Society is a whole losing social and moral codes because of difficulty in knowing what type of
people using internet for what purposes. Most criminals use social media for their own purposes, so in this
respect it is question mark on safety and security too.

After discussing the merits and demerits of social media it's difficult to decide whether it is useful or
harmful. However everything in the universe has its positives and negatives. It depends upon us how we
are using or perceiving? If we want to use social media in a positive way the merits are incalculable and
vice versa if use social media in a negative ways. If something is needed in this regard is, to educate the
users, establish certain rules and regulations for using social media and strongly acted upon these rules.
By doing so, we can get positive results and can make it useful for everyone. If we have left the users by
their own ways, the time is not far away that the global village will no more be a village but war zone.

F. Scott Fitzgerald believed inserting exclamation points was the literary equivalent
of an author laughing at his own jokes, but that's not the case in the modern age;
now, the exclamation point signifies creative confusion. All it illustrates is that even
the writer can't tell if what they're creating is supposed to be meaningful, frivolous,
or cruel. It's an attempt to insert humor where none exists, on the off chance that a
potential reader will only be pleased if they suspect they're being entertained. Of
course, the reader isn't really sure, either. They just want to know when they're
supposed to pretend to be amused.
