Tutorial 2 Concrete

There are 4 pad footings that are 500mm x 500mm x 250mm in size. To estimate the cost of the pad footings, the document provides data on the formwork, reinforcement bar, and concrete including material costs, labor costs, wastage allowances, and time required for tasks. The formwork uses 18mm plywood at RM36/m2 with 15% cutting waste and 4 uses per timber. Reinforcement bar costs RM1,480/tonne with 7% wastage and labor to select, cut, bend and fix takes over 2 hours for 100kg. The 1:2:3 concrete costs over RM10/50kg of cement with 50% wastage and requires a 5 person

QSB 2134 - Estimating

CHAPTER 7: CONCRETE WORK

Tutorial/ Seminar 2

Pad footing size 500mm x 500mm x 250mm

Column size 250mm x 250mm

250mm
You are required to do a preliminary estimate.
Estimate the cost of the pad footings.
a) There are 4 nos. of pad footings
b) Allowance reinforcement bar = 70kg/m3
c) The pad footings are on solid ground
d) Allow 30% placing wastages

FORMWORK DATA

Given:
18mm plywood at RM36.00 per m2
Cutting waste is 15%
Allow 4 uses for timber formwork
Waste on each use 10%
Nails, bolts @ RM1.50 per m2
1 joiner and 1 labourer take 1 hour to erect 1m2 of formwork
(Joiner @ RM8.00 per hour and labourer @ RM5.00 per hour)

REINFORCEMENT BAR DATA

Given:

Material cost Time analysis for 100kg of reinforcement bar:

reinforcement bar delivered to site is RM1,480 per tonne Select = 28 mins
allow for labour stacking & loading at RM5.00/tonne Cut = 32 mins
tie wire is 0.66kg/100kg if reinforcement bar at $4.80 / kg Bend = 35 mins
allow spacers RM4.00 per tonne of rebar Fix = 23 mins
allow waste 7% Hoist twice = 7 mins
allow for rolling margin RM22.00/ tonne

Labour cost:
Team - 1 skill labour and 1 unskilled labourer at RM6.00 and RM4.80 per hour respectively
Allow 10% idling time.

CONCRETE DATA
Cost of concrete:
Use 1:2:3 concrete design
- OPC at 1420 kg/m3 at RM10.00/50kg
- Fine aggregate at 1600kg/m3 at RM30.00/tonne
- coarse aggregate at 1400kg/m3 at RM40.00/tonne
- shrinkage consolidation and wastage 50%

5/31/2 Mixer
- labour gang - 5 nos required. Labour at RM3.50/hr/person
- One mixer output at 1.2m3 per hour
- Cost per hour of one mixer including fuel = RM5.00
- Additional labour for placing of concrete into pad footing at 0.60 hour/ m3 at RM5.00 per hour
- Additional labour working around reinforcement in 0.55 hour at RM5.00 per hour per m3
- Cost of vibrator = RM6.30 per 1.50m3
