Datasheet CODESYS IEC 61850 Server

Brief Overview
The IEC 61850 standard defines the communication between devices in the substation
automation of electrical power plants.

In accordance with this standard, the CODESYS IEC 61850 Server is completely integrated
in the CODESYS Development System and provides implementation for users according to
the first version of the standard. Intelligent electronic devices (IEDs) according to IEC 61850
can be configured directly from the CODESYS Development System and employed as
servers in energy networks.

The configured servers render real generated data from the network units (IED) into
messages and reports that can be used for further processing by connected IEC 61850
clients.

Architecture

The IEC 61850 specifies a strict hierarchical, nested data model, which uses the CODESYS
IEC 61850 Server add-on to logically and consecutively build the different components of
the IEC 61850 server, beginning with the physical layer (Ethernet).
Data
Attributes
1. Physical Device: Description of the real properties of the server
Data Objects
2. Logical Device: Abstract description of the real device with prescribed objects
Logical Nodes 3. Logical Nodes: Description of the components of the logical device by predefined,
Logical Device functional groups (e.g., LLN0, LPHD1)
4. Data Objects and Attributes: Description of the properties (e.g., Health, NamePlt)
Physical Device
by defined object attributes of the used components (e.g., Value, Quality, Timestamp)

Range of Functions/Function Properties

After installing the CODESYS IEC 61850 Server, the components of the add-on are available
in the menu of the CODESYS Development System (e.g., to extend the menu).

Then the CODESYS IEC 61850 Server of the CODESYS Development System is described in
the existing device tree as a physical device with an Ethernet adapter, including access to an
IEC 61850 server.

Range of Functions/Function Properties

The following additional characteristics are supported by the CODESYS IEC 61850 Server
add-on:

Physical description of the network environment of the server (IP addresses for the
server, clients, and gateways, as well as information about temporal behavior of the
server (timer, task and keepalive activities)
Import and export of essential components of the server configuration in various
SCL formats (ICD, SCD, CID)
Import of an existing configuration of the GOOSE subscriber
Support for the logical structure of data sets, MMS reports, GOOSE publisher and
GOOSE subscriber
Definition of MMS reports for transmitting to up to five IEC 61850 clients
Definition of regular multicast GOOSE publishers and management of the
GOOSE subscriber
Automatic generation of configuration-specific IEC 61131-3 code

The integration of CODESYS IEC 61850 Server add-on enables the following actions:

Management of a physical IEC 61850 server in the device tree

Connection of specific data attributes with CODESYS monitor and control variables of
a programmable controller
Management of individual data sets from selected data attributes
Configuration of the logical IED data structure

Options
There are currently no additional product options available for this product.

Benefits and Use Cases

Integrated solution in the existing CODESYS Development System
Superordinate functions of the CODESYS Development System are also available to the
add-on (e.g., input assistant)
Clear definition and display of the server properties
Use of consistent names for all data so that configuration data can simply be transmitted
from one server to another via SCL files
Definition of prioritization of messages via a quality of service for GOOSE and SMV
Abstraction of the communication interfaces for service requests
(GOOSE, GSSE and SMV)
Device-independent configuration of the server properties by defined functions
Manufacturer-independent object models for describing networks and the included
devices
